of Maumelle, AR
June 2, 1939 - December 24, 2011
Jerry Layne Odom 72 of Maumelle passed away on Saturday, December 24th, 2011 after a seven year battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer which ended with his family by his side.
He was born June 2, 1939 in Bee Branch, Arkansas to the late Arthur Hampton Odom and Mable Ester Henson Odom. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church in Greenbrier. Jerry grew up on a dairy farm where he learned the value of hard work. Those values and his work ethic made him a successful salesman in many venues. He was best known for his sales techniques and the many creative ways to sell manufactured homes. In 1979, he opened his first dealership, which became known as Odom's Mobile Homes. Many will remember his long running television commercials which featured his trademark phrase, "That's another reason were number one, Check it out. " After his retirement and a brief stint back at Circle O Farms he returned to what he loved the most the sales of manufactured homes where he continued to work until his passing. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed the company of his many grandchildren. His favorite pastimes were spent entertaining family and friends often while cheering on the Razorbacks and calling the Hogs. With his quick wit and humor few could resist cracking a smile when he was around.
He is survived by his wife Trish Odom of Maumelle, daughter, Jerri Lyn "J J" High (Kelly) of Hot Springs, three sons, Louis Odom (Donna) of Lee's Summitt, Missouri, Mike Odom of Conway and Jerry Odom, Jr. (Connie) of Quitman, one step-daughter Robyn Lowery Richardson (Keith) of Little Rock, his sister, Bea Odom Tipton (Nelson) of Arkadelphia, his grandchildren, Kelly Lyn High, Alexandra Odom, Jerry Odom Lawson, Casi Lawson Hudson, Josh Odom, Jake Odom, Olivia Richardson, Lowery Richardson, Parker Richardson, Alexandra Kamille Richardson and five great grandchildren.
Our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Infusion 4 nurses, techs, staff and volunteers for their compassion, love and care that we shared as a family. Each of you touched our lives in a very special way. Also, a thank you to the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, nurses, staff and a very special note of gratitude to Dr. Bart Barlogie and Dr. Fritzs Van Rhee.
