Friends from the Old Town School of Folk Music and I traveled to the Mountain View Folk Festival a couple of years in the 1970's and were privileged to stay in the bunkhouses at Pony Peak Ranch. Alan & Lucille were wonderful hosts and I fondly remember enjoying the music in Mountain View and then carrying the music back to the Pony Peak Ranch well into the night. God bless Lucille as she enjoys her new life in the kingdom!

I recently saw a piece on NBC News about Mountain View and was reminded of the great summers I spent at Pony Peak. I spent many summers at the ranch learning life, hard work, hard play, respect for animals and other people. Mrs Nixon holds a special place in my heart for being so sweet and caring about all of us as if we were her own. She touched so many lives as a teacher and and at the ranch. My condolences to her children and grand-children.

I have to echo the sentiments of many of you that Mrs. Nixon was my favorite teacher also. She taught me in 4th grade and I have so many vivid memories of that school year, because she inspired me in so many ways, and made learning fun. She also was my piano teacher for a number of years, and we also had some connection through Pony Peak activities because the Nixons were in partnership with my Aunt Nelbie and Graden Richardson. We enjoyed some camping, swimming, horseback riding, and cookouts together. She will be greatly missed, and always remembered.

Mrs. Nixon & Alan too, have always been very special to me and all of our family. I can remember visiting them with my parents, visiting Pony Peak and also having her as my teacher. She was a very special lady and an inspiration to every child that was fortunate enough to have her as a teacher. Even a month ago, visiting her in the nursing home, she still had a smile on her face and was glad to see my mother and I. She will be truly missed and I pray God will bless each of you.

Mrs. Nixon to me was so many things, its hard to list just a few. She instilled in me a love for the piano, that I still have to this day. Her love of music was passed along to many of the fortunate children that was in her class. We all have teachers that have influenced us, and Mrs. Nixon was most certainly the teacher I remember the most, and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. My thoughts are with her family at this time.

I have such fond memories of Mrs. Nixon who influenced me early in my life as my second and third grade teacher at Rural Special. She taught me many things including the love of music and reading. Her daughter, Donna, was my first grade teacher. Between the two of them, they taught, loved, and nurtured us for three years and established a bond that lasted a lifetime. In addition to teaching us, Mrs. Nixon was the unofficial school nurse before there was such a position. I was fortunate to get to reminisce with her during one of her recent hospital stays.

I'm very sorry to hear of Lucille's passing. She and Alan were like surrogate parents to me back in the early 60's when I spent 3 summers at Pony Peak Ranch. I have many fond memories of those days with Billy, Larry Dale, Sharon and Donna. Hugs to all of her family. I can still taste Lucille's chicken 'n dumplin's!

My thought when I heard about our dear friend and teacher was "Pleasant Hiil just lost another grand dame"; Aunt Blanche had just gone on a couple days ago. Ms. Nixon was a favorite teacher for me, and my twin sister, and my other siblings who were fortunate enough to have her as a teacher. My mom always loved having her as a neighbor. She was a treasure to our community and will be missed.
May God Bless her family - the children of Melvin and Retha Brewer
