George William McClure

October 16, 1923 - October 17, 2011

George William McClure of Marianna died on October 17, 2011 at his home. He was born October 16, 1923 near Senatobia, Mississippi to the late Milford W. McClure and Clara Terry McClure. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a turret gunner aboard various ships in the Asiatic Pacific. He worked for many years as a store manager for various retail businesses. George was a 65 year member of First United Methodist Church in Marianna serving on various boards and was the Sunday morning door opener and coffee maker until 2 weeks ago.
He was preceded in death on August 11, 2011 by his beloved wife of 65 years Bonnie Lovell McClure. He was also preceded in death by his sisters D.B. McClure, Annie McCullar, Vi Pollard, Earline Webster, and Frances Parkes; and brothers Marshall McClure, J.P. McClure, and Milton McClure.
George is survived by special friends Bob and Barbara McGinnis, a host of extended family members and friends and his devoted dog Snoopy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will also be on Thursday at the Church, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

To all our family: we all have many fond memories of Uncle George. He had a big heart and was loved by all. Sad that he was the last sibling of the "McClure brothers and sisters." He will be missed. Thank you Lord for his life.
