C. "Big Ed" Edmund Whelpley

of Little Rock, AR

October 1, 1925 - July 16, 2011

Ed Whelpley, 85, of Little Rock, formerly of Oak Island, North Carolina passed away at Chenal Heights in Little Rock on Saturday, July 16, 2011, where he spent his last few years.

"Big Ed" as he was known to his friends and family loved hunting, fishing, football and golf. He was as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married for over 50 years to the love of his life, Marge, who he met at a USO dance while he was an 18 year old in the United States Navy. She preceded him in death in December 2003. Big Ed attended Drexel University where he studied mechanical engineering. He worked as an engineer until his retirement in 1980. He was a faithful member and attended Sacred Heart Church in Southport, North Carolina.

He is survived by a daughter, Carole Clary of Columbia, South Carolina, sons, Jack Whelpley of Seattle, Washington, Bill Whelpley of Little Rock, Arkansas and Joe Whelpley of Cape May, New Jersey; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at a later date in Oak Island, North Carolina.

It was a pleasure knowing "Big Ed" I know he has enjoyed spending the past couple of years with his son Bill and Bill's sons, i hope he got to go to many games and see them play. everytime i pass his home here in Oak Island i think about "Big Ed" and his big move to be closer to his family. it was quiet a journey for all. Now he's taken his finaly journy into Gods arms, i'm sure he will be happy there too.
