November 4, 1907 - April 23, 2011
Mary Opal Bean Baxter, 103 of Searcy, died April 23, 2011. She was born November 4, 1907 in Kirbyville, Texas; the oldest of five children of Ector Estel and Nettie Hooks Bean. Her brothers, Doyle and Emil Bean, and Sisters, Jessie Mae Nichols and Annette Bills all preceded her in death. In 1941 she married Paul Madison Baxter who also preceded her in death. He was the love of her life. She is survived by many family members who live in various states.
Opal's greatest gifts were her love of teaching and her love of family and friends. She taught in five different Texas schools during her 37 year teaching career. She earned degrees from Harding College, Morrilton, Arkansas; University of Houston in Texas and the University of North Texas. She retired to Searcy, Arkansas in 1995 and was a member of the College Church of Christ.
Mrs. Baxter's final request for any memorial gifts to be sent to Harding University, 915 East Market Avenue, Box 12283, Searcy, Arkansas, 72149-2283 to be added to the Baxter House Endowment Fund. No public gatherings are being announced. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy, Arkansas.

My mother Jessie Mae Bean Nichols often spoke about her older sister. My Aunt Opal was very generous to continue to give to Christian education even after her death.

Aunt Opal was the first child in her family and the last to depart. She related her memories from her childhood through
the present when I last saw her on her 100th birthday.
A sweet strong soul, she has gone back to be with God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
