Leon McChesney, 89, of Poplar Grove, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his home. Mr. McChesney was born December 19, 1919 in Cairo, Illinois to the late M.B. McChesney and the late Lela Hillyard McChesney. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and he retired from farming in Poplar Grove.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorotha McChesney; two sons, Gary McChesney and wife, Maureen, of Batesville, Arkansas and Perry McChesney and wife, Debbie, of Newark, Arkansas; one daughter, Carolyn Fehr of Poplar Grove; nine grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Inez McChesney and Loree Hill.
Services for Leon McChesney will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Roller-Citizens. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-3 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Brother Charles Shipman and Brother Rob Pelkey will officiate.
Pallbearers are Billy Wayne McChesney, Doyle Simpkins, Dennis Bryant, John White, Charles Heard, Jim Igou, Tommy Taylor and Larry Howell.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 97 Phillips County 302 Road, West Helena, Arkansas 72390.
