of North Little Rock, AR
December 5, 1920 - August 19, 2009
Charles Robert Goss, 88, passed away on August 19, 2009.Robert was born December 5, 1920 in North Little Rock, AR to Oscar and Edna Goss. After graduating from North Little Rock High School, he joined the Army Air Corps. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in England and France. After returning from the service, he married Nettie Jane Burns on October 21, 1947 and they began their sixty-one year adventure together. Robert worked for Sears Roebuck for ten years and then Top Value Stamps for twenty years until he retired. Believing he was too young for retirement, he then worked for the North Little Rock Housing Authority for eight years.
Robert was a lifelong member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church. He joined the Gardner Choir at age 13 and continued to sing with great joy until he retired from the choir earlier this year. In June, the church honored Robert by holding a special service and naming their choir room after him.
Robert was also an active member of North Little Rock Kiwanis for 37 years and in 1999 was named Kiwanis Man of the Year.
Throughout his life, his greatest joys were his family, his church and his beloved Razorbacks and Cardinals. Although not particularly athletic himself, he loved sports of all kinds and supported athletic programs throughout his life. He managed and coached his son's Little League baseball team, the church fastball pitch softball team and later in life, the women's softball team at church. Until his last few months, there was not a crossword puzzle he could not conquer.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Eugene, and is survived by his wife Nettie Jane; his brother, Harold and wife Karla of Hot Springs; two children, son, Chuck Goss and wife, Sally of Little Rock and daughter, Janet Mitchell and husband, Robert of Plano, TX; three grandchildren, Lindsay Mitchell, Kevin Brockmeier, Jeff Brockmeier and wife, Jennifer and great-grandson, Jacob Brockmeier. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church, 18th & Schaer Street in North Little Rock, preceded by a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church.

He will be missed by many people and I already miss him at the Hays Center and it was inspiration to see him walking on the track. God Bless all the Family.

I know your loss. Charles was a good friend for all those years in Kiwanis. When he said that he could no longer attend, I knew our days with him were short. Be comforted by the fact that he was a genuine person and greatly respected. No doubt he is is the great choir in Heaven today. God bless you all.

I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Goss, but I can tell from the obituary and the comments from friends and family that he was an admirable man. I also know this from my friendship with Chuck and Sally. It takes a good, solid man to raise a fine son like you, Chuck. I know you will miss your father terribly, but can be proud of the legacy he gave you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Robert and Net have been our dear friends for many, many years.
Robert also loved to sing and was always willing to sing a solo any time he was asked. He was really a great Man . He will surely be missed by everyone.

To The Wonderful Goss Family,
My heart is aching as I write this. As you know, I have always felt like an extended part of your family. My extended family may be smaller in number, but not so in the love and fulfillment I have felt from all of you. Robert was a wonderful, kind, gentleman and I will always cherish the thought of him singing at my wedding. What a strong voice from such a quiet man.
I am so glad that I was able to know him as well as I have over the years. My life has truly been touched by knowing and loving him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I only wish I was close enough to be there with you.

Nettie & Chuck,
Robert will be truly missed by all who knew him. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love the Larch Family

Nettie & Family,

His "favorite daughter-in-law" will miss him more than words can say.

Nettie Jane, Charles and Janet, our prayers are with you, Robert was such a great person and made a huge impact in our lives. We will miss him.

Dear Precious Family --
We are filled with tears and saddness upon learning of the death of Mr. Goss. He was a sterling gentleman; All who crossed paths with him, consider themselves 'blessed'. Surely Charles Robert is in Heven with brother Gene (who we also loved) and the twosome are having a swell visit again. We extend to you - his family - our sympathies. If there is any assistance we can provide, please know we are only a telephone call away. Charles Robert Goss was simply another way of saying: 'A GOOD MAN'. God Bless you all...
