of Batesville, AR
February 13, 1922 - May 4, 2009
Mildred Vernell (Talley) Coop "Pidge" was born February 13, 1922 in Batesville and departed this world Monday, May 4, 2009.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Hale H. Coop of the home; son, Dennis Hale Coop and wife Martha of Sherwood; daughter, Myra Elaine Coop Kendall and husband Mike of Batesville; son William Steven Coop and wife Jolene of Little Rock; sister, Sarah Talley Thompson of West Memphis; brother, Gerald Morris Talley of Searcy; brother, Joe Talley of Lawton, Oklahoma; double nephews, Lindy Harold Coop of San Braunfels, Texas, and David Dare Coop of Sherwood; grandchildren; Mary Kathryn Williams and husband, Trey of Alexander, Arkansas, Jessica Myra Jensen and husband, Chris of Alexander, Tara Creighton and husband, Eric of Batesville, Haley Bunch and husband, Josh of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy Coop and wife, Melinda of Liberty City, Texas, Luke Coop and wife, Deborah of North Little Rock, Christianne Hall and husband, Byron of North Little Rock; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea Rose Jensen, Sydney and Will Creighton, Andrew and Emily Coop, Mary Grace Coop, Benjamin, Carlyanne, and Cole Hall; and a lucky cat named Fred.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank Talley and Lela Alice Talley; a brother, Lawrence W. Talley; sisters, Dorothy Arene Talley Coop, Wanda Jean Talley Coleman and Laura LaFay Talley Petree.
As a young child she and her older brother Lawrence spent hours trapping and playing with the pigeons around their home and it was there that he chose the nickname "Pidge" that she proudly went by the rest of her life.
She was walked to school her first day of elementary school by the love of her life, Hale. Their marriage on February 1, 1941 was just a stepping stone in a courtship that lasted throughout her life. Generous to a fault, it was her contribution of her young family's savings account that helped provide the funding to prevent the closure of the fledgling Calvary Baptist Church, the church that Pidge and Hale called home throughout their life. Following the birth and early years of her youngest child, Pidge entered nursing school and upon graduation she served the Batesville community, first as a nurse in the North Arkansas Clinic Hospital and later as a nurse in the office of Dr. Bob G. Smith. Following her retirement she continued to serve as a volunteer at the White River Medical Center and Woodlawn Nursing home. Pidge spent the last several years of her life in the ultimate labor of love caring for her husband Hale in his declining health.
She loved all animals great and small and had an incredible green thumb. She had gumption.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville with Bro. Stefan Eubanks officiating.
Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers are Mike Kendall, Tim Coop, Luke Coop, Byron Hall, Terry Talley, and Tony Thompson.

What a wonderful lady!! I came to know Mildred through Dr. Bob Smith. Nursing was a true profession for her. Her extreme kindness always made me feel
better.Heaven is a better place today because she is
there! She will be missed!!
My condolences to Steve Coop and the extended family.
Myra,
Many times we never know what our family members mean to others. Mildred was a special person for Bob, Jami, and me because she was our "nurse" for many years. We loved her and entrusted our lives to her over the years. I know you will miss her, but I'm thinking she's having a good time with my mom now.

God is good even when we are in the midst of grief...especially then. That's when He cradles us in the palm of His hand, providing the comfort that we need so desperately. She was a wonderful lady. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Family,
I am thinking of and praying for all of you at this time. As I reflect back on the life of my Aunt Pidge and Uncle Hale the difference I saw in them when I was a little girl had so very much to do with me accepting Jesus as my Saviour. I will be eternaly greatful for the testimony of a life lived to honor The Lord Jesus Christ. Well done good and faithful servant. We will all miss you bunches. Love Linda
