Robert Lewis Merrell, 68, passed away on March 10, 2008, at his home in Greenbrier from lung cancer and complications of diabetes. He was born February 11, 1940 in San Jose, California, to the late Lee Roy and Myrl Ruth (Reed) Merrell.
Mr. Merrell was a 1957 graduate of Wynne High School. He served in the U. S. Army as a Military Police, and subsequently was employed by the West Memphis Poice Department as a Patrolman and a Detective Sergeant. In recent years, he worked for Carlton Burnett of Greenbrier in construction.
Robert was a member of Bono Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, the late Lee Roy Merrell of Cross County, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Olivia (Jones) Merrell; three sons and one daughter, Paul Merrell and wife Robin of Booneville; Dean Merrell of Greenbrier; Terry Lee Merrell and wife Charlotte of Bryant; Amber Merrell Gilmore and husband Bobby of Greenbrier. He is also survived by his mother, Myrl Ruth (Reed) Merrell of Cookeville, Tennessee; a brother, Raymond T. Merrell and wife, Francis of Cross County, Arkansas; a sister, Carolyn Merrell Cummings and husband Willard of Cookeville, Tennessee. He will be missed by his grandchildren, David Keith Gilmore, Brandon Merrell, Paul Merrell, Jr., Olivia Nicole Merrell, Sarah Vigil Merrell Cody Davis Merrell, Tyler Page Trent Merrell; five nieces and one nephew; and his extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Bobby, Stanley and David Keith Gilmore, Steve Brookshire, David Blessman and Willard Cummings. Honorary pallbearers are his sons, Paul, Dean and Terry Merrell.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 14th, in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Michael Gray officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Wooster, under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Greenbrier. 501-679-2575.

I am so sorry to learn of Robert's passing. He was a good man, and always sweet to me.

As a classmate of Robert's at Wynne High School I would like to express my sympathy to Robert's family. Our class members were aware of Robert's failing health and we will remember him always at our annual Class Reunions.

Olivia, Since the day Amber came into our lives and married Bobby your family became our family. We all loved and respected Robert, he was always such a kind man, with a smile on his face and a kind word, where ever you seen him, he was always the same. His eyes had such love in them for you and his family. I know all the family will miss him greatly, but remember he is in a better place, and you will see him again some day.
