Floyd James Hignite, 86, of Clarksville, died on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born on April 18, 1921, in Ozone, Arkansas, to the late John Thomas and Janie (Ritchie) Hignite. In 1936 he was the first to establish a mail route from Ozone to Oark, was a service member of the C.C.C. of Locke Hollow, a World War II Army Veteran, a member of Local 75 iron worker's union in Phoenix, Arizona for 55 years, and a member of the Clarksville Airport Commission.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Burlage Hignite; three daughters, Judy Marie Hignite of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Joan Frances Hignite Guinn of Sanford, Florida, and Marlene Juanita Bennett of Paradise Valley, Arizona; two sons, Sonny John Hignite of Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Oklahoma and Jerry Floyd Hignite of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Amy Lois Hignite of Hartman, Arkansas and Bessie Langdon of Ozone, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Janie Ritchie Hignite and one brother, Charlie Hignite.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2008. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville with Father William Wewers officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville (479) 754-2201.
