Mrs. Dorothy Penney, 82, of Flippin passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007. A Gathering of Remembrance will be 1:00 9:00 p.m. Friday at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m.
Dorothy was born April 14, 1925 to Everett and Gladys (Hensley) Haley in Gamaliel, Arkansas. She married Gene Penney on March 27, 1948 in Tupelo, Mississippi, and they returned to the area in 1971 by way of Memphis, Tennessee.
An avid gardener, Dorothy tended flowers, vegetables, and yard shrubbery anything that could grow, would grow under her care. A true daughter of the Ozarks, she was strong-willed and proud; but she was also a big-hearted person with a soft spot for the many strays the kids would bring home. She made her church home with the Christian Church of Flippin.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie (Dan) Stone of Yellville; sons: Robert (Ruth) Penney of Clarksville and Chris Penney of Mountain Home; grandchildren: Evelyn, Jesse, Nick, Ashley, Joshua, and Melanie; sister: Joan Melton of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, sister Nancy Kennedy, brothers Elbert and Delbert, and an infant brother.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society breast cancer research.

Deepest sympathy to the family, and especially Joan who may remember me as Nancy's best friend. Dorothy & Gene were very kind to me when Nancy and I lived with them in Memphis. Many of my fondest memories are there in Mt. Home and the Ozarks! God Bless.
