Opal Jean Byrd

March 25, 1940 - October 20, 2013 Opal Jean Byrd, 73, of West Helena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Byrd was born March 25, 1940 at Advance, Arkansas to the late Winfred A. White and the late Maudie Acklin White. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and worked as a preschool teacher’s aide for the Barton School District.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Byrd; a son, Robert D. Byrd (Tasha) of Austin, Arkansas; two daughters, Brenda Bennett (Mike) of Greenbriar, Arkansas and Donna Holt (Kenny) of West Helena; ten grandchildren, Beth Miller (Jeremy), Robert Bennett (Mika), Kaleb Holt, Ryan Holt (Avery), Hunter Holt, Brent Holt, Eva Abbi Byrd, Maddox Byrd, Braylen Byrd and Justin Ray; five great-grandchildren, Bennett Miller, Blair Miller, Brenna Miller, Brighton Miller and Brooks Bennett; one sister, Ida Mae Chamness (Fred) of Manassas, Virginia; and a special nephew, Brian White of West Helena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Melvin White.
Graveside services for Opal Byrd will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Park at West Helena. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Reverend Fred Garrison will officiate.
Pallbearers are Robert Bennett, Kaleb Holt, Ryan Holt, Hunter Holt, Brent Holt and Brian White.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
