July 7, 1950 - September 12, 2013 Larry Joe Guthrie, 63 of Melbourne died Thursday, September 12, 2013 in Melbourne. He was born July 7, 1950 in Walnut Ridge and was the son of Billy Joe Guthrie and Maxine Hoggard Guthrie Smith. He was a veteran of the U S Army. Larry owned and operated Guthrie Auto Repair in Melbourne for many years. Prior to owning his own business, he worked for Walker-Creighton Ford. He enjoyed drag racing and owned his own racing team with his son, Brad Guthrie. He also enjoyed stock car racing and all types of auto racing. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, boating, and water skiing, especially teaching his grandchildren to water ski. He was a Mason and a member of the Melbourne Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Southern Guthrie; a son, Brad Guthrie and wife, Rebecca of Melbourne; a stepdaughter, Diana Stevens of Batesville; two sisters, Linda Gaston and husband, Terry of Violet Hill and Christina Guthrie of Batesville; five grandchildren, Kaylee Jo Guthrie of Melbourne, Alicia Stevens of Batesville, Dylan Stevens of Batesville, Brian Selby of Horseshoe Bend and Chad Selby of Little Rock; several stepbrothers and stepsisters; several nieces and nephews; his first wife, Wonna Guthrie; and ex-son-in-law, Clint Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mary Louise Guthrie; and twin granddaughters, Kayla and Kyla Guthrie. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Melbourne with Steve Stevenson officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Ronald Moser, Charles "Ace" Grisham, Harold Burgess, and Clint Stevens. After the memorial service, there will be a gathering of family and friends until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
