Drexel Spurlock

August 13, 1933 - January 2, 2013 Drexel Spurlock, 79, of Ash Flat died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Kingsmill, Arkansas on August 13, 1933 and was the son of Lawrence Spurlock and Julia Couch Spurlock. He was the former owner of The White Owl restaurant in Evening Shade; worked for the U.S. Forestry Service; and was a police officer in Cherokee Village. He was also a former member of the Center Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gaylee (Dawson) Spurlock; two sons: Borden Spurlock and his wife, Belinda of Ash Flat, Homer Spurlock and his wife, Brandy of Jonesboro; two daughters: Pam Yates and her husband, Jim of Hardy, Drexene Winey and her husband, Dale of Ash Flat; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis Spurlock of Mountain Home; a sister, Olene Mosier of Texarkana, AR; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Geraldine Ricks, and one grandchild, Summer Spurlock. Graveside services will at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Center Cemetery at Center with James Goodman officiating. Pallbearers will be Dale Winey, Jim Yates, Bud Spurlock, Nathan Winey, Jimmy Yates, and Lance Spurlock. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Scott, Dan Schroeder, and Michael Orosz. Visitation will be from 11:00 am. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home in Cave City. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Little Rock, AR 72202.
