Juanita DeSpain
of Blytheville, AR December 8, 1914 - July 8, 2010 Mrs. Juanita DeSpain, 90, of Blytheville, died July 8, 2010. She was born in Yantis, Texas to William Carl and Addie Lee Barrett and lived for more than forty years in Blytheville. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and retired from Dr. Herbert Jones’ office. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blytheville. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Othell, Woodrow and Edgar Barrett; two sons, Hugh Edward DeSpain and Donald Ray Lyles; and a grandson, Michael Brannam. Survivors include: two brothers, Fred Barrett of Arkansas and James Paul Barrett of North Carolina; two sisters, Oletta Johnson of North Carolina and Edna Spence of Arkansas; two sons and their wives; Richard and Gail DeSpain of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Robert and Angie DeSpain of Blytheville, Arkansas; three daughters, Barbara Myers, Donna and Jim Healey of Blytheville and Betty Carol DeSpain of Sebastian, Florida. Eleven grandchildren: Jim and Christie Brannam of Creston, Ohio, Dr. Larry and Suzanne Brannam of Atlanta, Georgia, Jamie and Kerry Cooper of Blytheville, Noah DeSpain of Germany, Paul Howard DeSpain of San Diego, CA, Rendi and Bobby Mitchell of Paragould, Robert Doyle “Bo” DeSpain, Jr. of Paragould, Jennifer and Michael Whitehead of Leachville, Maggie Healey of Blytheville, Kelley and Dale Nichols of Franklin, Tennessee, Lisa Elward of Atlanta, Georgia. Seventeen great grandchildren: Jason Brannam, Matt and Trey Cooper, Rhett Healey, Jessica, Jenna and Jordan Brannam, Matthew, Joshua, Michael and David Nichols, Samuel Whitehead, Addison and Jackson Mitchell, Seng and Gabriel DeSpain, Karsyn Kynnedi and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. DeSpain also leaves her former colleagues, Margaret Besharse, Carole Ann Hinson, Theresa Burge and Jean Henderson whom she dearly loved. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing and was an excellent cook. She was a mother as well as a father to her children and worked tirelessly to provide for them. She never met a stranger and opened her heart and her resources to anyone in need. She was an excellent nurse, attending nurses’ school later in life while working several jobs simultaneously as well as caring for her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
