Emmett "Bruce" Bowers Chiles III

Emmett Bowers (Bruce) Chiles III of Pecan Point, Mississippi County, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at the age of 69. Mr. Chiles, a fourth-generation landowner in Mississippi County, was a retired farmer and commercial real-estate appraiser. Mr. Chiles was born on November 6, 1939, to Emmett Bowers (June) Chiles, Jr., and Sophie Broussard Chiles. In 1961, he received a B.B.A. from University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. An avid sportsman and fisherman, he was a third generation member of the O.K. Hunting Club and a member of Mississippi Single Action Shooting Society. Also active in local politics and agribusiness, he was a past member of the Board of Directors of Home Oil Company Inc., and the Farmers Gin Company, Inc., a two-time past president and member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi County Farm Bureau, and a past member of the Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board. At the time of his death, Mr. Chiles served on the St. Francis District Levee Board, the Mississippi County Democratic Central Committee, the Mississippi County Equalization Board and the Board of Directors of the Riverlawn Country Club in Osceola, Arkansas. Mr. Chiles is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judith McDaniel Chiles; his son and daughter in law, Emmett Bowers (Chip) Chiles IV and Jonann Coniglio Chiles of Little Rock, Arkansas; and his daughter, Leigh McDaniel Chiles of Memphis, Tennessee.
