William A. MasseyI am a Veteran.

of Byhalia, MS

April 14, 1938 - May 9, 2022

William Albert Massey, 84, from Byhalia, Mississippi went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 9, 2022. W.A. was born at the family home in Palestine, Arkansas on April 14, 1938 to the late James Arthur Massey and Stella Ophelia Arbuckle Massey. He was married to Mary Jane Brooks Massey for 60 years.

W.A. ''Dub'' graduated from Vanndale High School near Cherry Valley, Arkansas in 1956 and worked on the family farm. He joined the US Army Reserve in 1961 and served as a sergeant in the motor pool. Dub met Mary Jane Brooks in 1960 and the two married in 1961. At that time Dub began answering to ''Doug.''

Doug worked in the printing industry for 40 years starting as a pressman, working his way to Plant Manager at Sternberger Company and retiring in 1999 to begin a small concessions business in Byhalia and the surrounding area.

Doug and Mary Jane enjoyed traveling the country in their RV for many years and especially enjoyed camping and fishing for trout at Heber Springs every chance they could.

Raised in the Methodist church where he was saved and baptized, Doug joined the Church of God when he married. Doug was an active member of his church for many years serving as the church clerk, pastor's council, children's Sunday school superintendent, and choir member. Doug and Mary Jane have regularly attended Abundant Grace Ministries for the last ten years.

Doug and Mary Jane moved to Byhalia in 1976 where he enjoyed raising cows, beekeeping for a time and planting and tending a large garden every year.

Doug lived a rich and full life guided by the Lord to serve others and never failed to help a neighbor in need.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, James and Stella Massey; two brothers, Jimmy and Ray Massey; three sisters, Barbara Massey, Berthel Freeman and Josie Freeman.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; his daughters, Melody (Dave) Kuhl and Jennifer Massey; his five grandchildren, David (Renae) Kuhl, Amy Kuhl, Anne Kuhl, Rachel Kuhl and Benjamin Kuhl; one great grandson, Carson Kuhl; brothers, Marvin (Zada) Massey and Jerry (Brenda) Massey and one sister, Bonnie Cox.

Funeral services will be 2PM Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Abundant Grace Ministries, 9239 E. Holmes Road, Collierville, TN. Burial will follow at Desoto Memorial Gardens, 630 E. Star Landing Road, Southaven, MS.

Visitation will precede the service from 1-2PM.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I keep looking out to see if he’s cutting your grass and keep a check on him to make sure he’s not sneaking a ladder in or getting too hot. I pray the peace that passes all understanding is with all who loved him and were touched by his kindness.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. I remember him well from attending church with him and his family at Oak Forest Church of God in Memphis, which was my home church. Sang him in the choir. Grew up with his girls. Prayers going up for his entire family.

My prayers go out to Mary Jane and the family. Doug was a great friend to my Dad. He is at peace now and I'm sure him and Dad have already talked about trout fishing.
May God bless you 🙏

David and I send our prayers and condolences to the entire Massey family. Doug was a fine man whom we will certainly miss. That row in our Sunday school class just won’t look the same without him. I believe that Doug has joined the “crowd of witnesses” waiting for us in Heaven. Love, Diane

Haven't known Doug or the family very long, but in the short time I have known them I have so learned to appreciate their sweet spirit and smiley faces. That is the way I will remember Doug from just last Sunday. Will pray for the family. Love you all.
