LaVerne Hamric Jones

of Little Rock, AR

November 11, 1928 - July 26, 2022

LaVerne Hamric Jones, age 93, went to the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, July 26. She will be missed by so many who loved her. She had the roles of Wife, Mother, Granna, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend.

She was born in Hickory Plains, Arkansas on November 11, 1928 to Ralph and Maude Hamric. She graduated from Beebe High School. Eddie Jones a much older serviceman came into her life after meeting at the Walgreen's food counter in downtown Little Rock. They married on November 14, 1947. They had three children and raised them at Little Rock First Nazarene. LaVerne taught Sunday School, worked at VBS, supervised the Junior Department with her husband, was involved in missionary service, etc. She and Eddie made sure the family was at church "every time the door was open."

LaVerne's last job was at Heritage Publishing for 30 plus years before finally retiring at age 82! She left a few years before but was bored so she went back to work. She made many great friends there and went on fun Branson trips with fellow employees. Also, special get togethers with her close friends.

She enjoyed trips to Destin with family, even though she and her sister did not swim, Friday nights eating out with family, reading, Facebook and sewing in her earlier years. But being with family was her favorite.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Dr. Mike Jones and her sister, Lucille Shelton. LaVerne is survived by her daughters, Sharon Spangler (Sandy) and Melissa Butts (Chris). She was affectionately known as Granna to grandchildren, Aimee Murders (Brian), Courtney Hill, Matthew Hill (Riley), Rachel Jones Kirk, David Jones, Chris Jones and Emily Butts; great-grandchildren, Haven Hill, Aidan Harrell, Ryan Hill, Merritt Hill, Baylee Murders, Lenlee Murders, Archer Murders and Declan Allen; nieces, who were like her daughters, Jan Woody, Cheryl Hendricks, Kristin McDonald, and their families.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of LaVerne to Little Rock Church of the Nazarene, 1309 Old Forge Dr, Little Rock, AR 72227.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, July 29, at Roller Chenal Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10 am on Saturday, July 30. Rev. Bobby Howard will be officiating. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

"Well done good and faithful servant!"

I am imagining all the saints of Little Rock First having an awesome reunion in heaven. What a tremendous heritage we have and memories beyond measure. Your mom and dad are a huge part of those memories. I remember your mom so well as a beautiful, sweet lady who loved to love on people. May the God of all comfort be near you all as you celebrate a life well lived. You are loved.

What a special, sweet lady to so many people. We are so thankful that our paths crossed while walking here on Earth. She taught us so many things by the example she lived. Praying for all of her families as they walk this valley and as she celebrates the joy accomplished by walking with her Lord!

She was such a sweet and considerate lady. When I’d see her at church or Sunday dinner she always engaged in a conversation. Never ignored those around her.

We have known this dear lady and her family for over fifty years. She has always been a dear friend and Christian mentor. She will certainly be missed by us and a host of friends and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
