July 14, 1932 - July 25, 2022

Jerry Lee Carter, M.D., age 90, of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 25, 2022. He was born July 14, 1932 in Jonesboro to Odessa Higginbotham Carter and LeRoy Carter.

Jerry graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1954 where he was a member of Sigma Chi. It was there that he was nicknamed Moonman because he owned an Oldsmobile Rocket 88.

Jerry began his career in Phillips Co, Arkansas where he owned a cotton gin and a chemical and seed company. At the age of 34, Jerry became ill with Guillian-Barr syndrome, which left him completely paralyzed. During his illness, he promised God that if He would heal him, he would go to medical school so that he would be able to help as many people as possible. Jerry was healed and he kept his promise to God and continued to practice Family Medicine until he was 77 years old.

Jerry was a member of Little Rock's First Baptist Church. He was an avid Razorback fan and coin collector. He loved to play duplicate bridge and travel. In his younger years, Jerry loved to play basketball, football, tennis, golf, water ski, snow ski and bowling.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Betty Swihart Carter; three children, Jerry Lee Carter, Jr. (Gerry), Teresa Murphy (Joe) all of Little Rock and Brent Carter (Amy) of Heber Springs; three grandchildren, Patrick Murphy (McKenzie), Brittany Holt (Jayme) and Alex Layrock; five great-grandchildren, Sawyer Murphy, Sutton Murphy, Sullivan Murphy, Stella Holt and Beau Holt. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Carter.

Funeral services will be at 4:00pm on Friday, July 29, 2022, in the Chapel of Little Rock's First Baptist Church. A visitation will begin at 3:00pm. A private family graveside service will be held at another time at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Mark Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203 and/or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Dr Carter was a wonderful person. So sweet and kind. He was a great doctor. I took a dear friend of mine to him and he was just wonderful taking care of her. She’d always take him pear Jam and he said he look forward each morning eating them with biscuits. He was so sweet to this dear lady and helped her with her health. She had broke her hip once, she lived An hour and half away from Little Rock, he sent an ambulance for her and seen she was taken care of. I got to know Dr Carter then. He always had a smile. He’d talk about traveling and what a sweet wife he had. I know he is with Jesus now. I look forward seeing you again Dr Carter in Heaven.

Jerry, Teresa and Brent, I am so sorry about your precious dad. I loved Dr. Carter so much. He gave me the opportunity to work with him years ago. I had no experience and he took a chance on me, that most employers would not have, due to not being qualified at that time. It was my first job in the real world. He was a wonderful boss and friend. I will never forget all he did for me. I will be praying for all of you.
