June 20, 1969 - September 11, 2022
On Sunday, September 11, 2022, Sherry Barefield quietly left this earth. She was born Sherry Sue James on June 20, 1969, to Walter and Donna James in Newport, AR.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 14 years, Bobby, her sister, Kathryn James, her sons, Matt James and Jonah Jones and wife Katelyn, as well as her stepchildren which she loved as her own, Jessica Freeman and husband Jacob, Brittani Motley and husband Eric, Ashley Barefield, Christopher Barefield and wife Tonya, and Nicholas Barefield and 13 grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
Her life was hard, but she wouldn't have changed any of it. She dedicated her life to her children. She earned her bachelor's degree in education in 2009 while working at the bus factory during the day and attending school at night. Then a few years later, she went back and got her master's in special education. Not only did she love her job, but every student she taught.
She loved to travel, Mexico, Florida Keys, her favorite was Alaska. She was passionate about her pets; dogs, parakeets, sugar gliders, and chickens, her own mini wild kingdom. Her greatest passion and love were her grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than to have them with her.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
I was privileged to work as an assistant in her classroom at school and learned many things. I am great full for watching her guide students with such grace and passion. Having taken away many positive examples from Sherri and learning the art of patience while teaching, I will forever be grateful to her! I love her and may she rest peacefully!
For the longest time Sherry thought I was a day older than her. I still remember the look she gave me when she figured out I was actually younger! Meeting you with Bobby for dinner in Arkansas, notes on FB, funny pics and memes. The love you had for family and friends. You will be missed. My love to the family.
I met and worked with Sherry at Hall High School. Sherry was was a kind and thoughtful person. She had a sweet spirit. Sherry often spoke of her sister that she was proud to take care of. In one of our last conversations, she was excited to be moving to her new home and for her new teaching position in Cabot.
Gone too soon. You will be missed.

I knew Sherry at Bearden High School. She was a sweet lady. So sorry for your loss.
You were a friend to those who had none. You cared about your family and your students and worked hard to provide for them. You took care of your sister, like a mother, in your mother's absence. All your little pets knew they were loved. Your passing from this life came without notice and way to soon, but your footprint remains. You changed lives for the better while you were here, and all of us will never forget. See you in Glory!
You were good to everyone, great for students. Prayers for your family.
Sherry, you will be missed by so many. I know myself and Kayla thought about you all the time and were so glad you were our teacher. Say hi to Taylor up there for us. I am very sad that you are gone but I know you are at rest and peace. I love you!
