George G. Dickey

of Conway, AR

September 28, 1946 - August 3, 2022

George Granade Dickey was born to Joe Kermit Dickey and Lorraine Tate Granade Dickey on September 28, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Kermit Dickey, Jr.

Mr. Dickey is survived by his bride of 26 years, Cindy Heffington Dickey of Conway, Arkansas; three children, Deana Fagundes (Joe) of Niceville, Florida, Jodie Ramsey of Montana and Joe Tate Dickey (Dreama) of Vilonia, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Fagundes, Joseph Fagundes, Zac Gimple (Irlanda), Berlin Brown and Ellowyn Hazel Dickey; 1 great-grandson, Owen Gimple and foster child, Frank Pinkard.

He attended school in Montgomery, Alabama and later at Troy University, earning a B.S. in Physical Education and English. While at Troy, he was a founding father of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, later President and President of the Interfraternity Council. George was also involved in Student Government.

Mr. Dickey was a high school football and basketball coach and coached the State All-Star basketball team. He later spent 27 years with AFLAC Insurance Company, rising to VP of International Affairs. He retired in 2000 and moved to Vilonia. He was a member of Centennial and Conway Country Clubs where he played golf daily for 15 years.

He felt he had a wonderful life, great parents and was proud of his children. He and the love of his life, Cindy and son, Tate, traveled the world, literally. He also enjoyed cruising. His hobbies were travel, sports, reading and working in his flower bed.

He was fond of saying, ''I might of done some things in my life I'm not proud of, but I never did anything I didn't enjoy''.

A visitation for Mr. Dickey will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 6-8:00pm and a Memorial Service will be on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 10:00am, both at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas.

Coach Dickey was with us for the 1970 and 71 seasons. He tried hard to be a good coach . He was not much older than us. RIP Coach

Cindy,

Lisa and I just watched the lovely memory video of George, you and the family online, in fact, we watched it twice. I thought to myself as I reflected on the music and images, no matter how long a life is, the songs are too short and the pictures too few. The memories of loved ones, family and friends that we’ve lost are what bind us all together. When we think about someone past or present and they make us smile I’d say life well lived, job well done. When we think of you and George, we smile.

Cindy, my treasured friend, I am broken-hearted over the loss of your sweet George. After he came on the scene of our lives there was definitely never a dull moment when he was around. I loved the friendship that developed between him and Henry over the years. Many times I laughed as I heard their phone conversations! I’m so thankful for those sweet memories of our husbands. I am fervently praying for you, Tate, and the entire family. As you know, I have no magic words. What I offer you is a reminder that God is ALWAYS near, even when it doesn’t feel like it, and that I am available day or night when you need to talk, cry, or just be… I love you my lifelong friend.
