He attended Whitton school and Wilson high school. Bobby proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1973. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church West Memphis. He is survived by his children, Alan (Linda) W. Proffitt, Brian (Lisa) W. Proffitt, John J. Proffitt, David (Libbie) N. Ross, Laura (Britt) J. Estes, and Dana (Nick) L. Wheatley; brothers Thomas E. Bobby owned several businesses through the years including Old South Nursery and Broadway Nursery selling plants and trees to those in the West Memphis area. Later, he owned Bob's Delta Icehouse for many years. He was a very hands-on person, very skilled in the trades whether it was plumbing, electrical, painting or anything else that was needed. Later in life, his passion was genealogy and helping others research their family history.

Grandpa Bob (as he was affectionately known) and the family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the Flo and Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas for the outstanding support and care during this difficult time.

Visitation will be Feb 12 at 10am followed by a service at 11am at Roller Citizens West Memphis.

Sharon and other family members, I am thinking of you at this time as you prepare to lay your brother, Bobby to rest. He was a true gentleman in my opinion. He sat across the aisle from us in church on Sunday mornings. I knew of the Profitt family through my friend, Betty Ward. She spoke about the family often and especially your Mother. She must have been a wonderful person to have raised a large family with exceptional personalities. I will miss seeing him and especially his friendly greeting. Praying for all of you to be comforted to know Bobby is joining other family members in his eternal home.

My Grandpa Bob married my Mamaw, Linda, when I was 3 years old. One of my earliest memories is asking him, “Grandpa Bob, why do you wear the same clothes every day” only to learn that he owned many similar dress shirts and khaki pants, all pressed and neatly hanging in his closet. While my Grandpa Bob was a quiet man with a simple wardrobe, he possessed a large variety of skills and interests. He maintained and expanded these skills as he aged while remaining very active. He took care of his loved ones and provided exceptional care to my grandmother, especially as her health declined. I will always be grateful to him for this and will miss him very much. I am thankful he was part of my family and am at peace knowing he is resting after living a long, fruitful life.
