I served in the Army.
Lonnie Clyde HinkleI am a Veteran.

of Marshall, AR

December 17, 1946 - February 6, 2026

Lonnie Clyde Hinkle, age 79 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this earthly life on Friday, February 6th, 2026 at his home. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on December 17th, 1946 to Clyde Monroe Hinkle and Tennie Lautricia Politte Hinkle. Lonnie married the love of his life, Shanna Rose Castleman on November 16th, 1968. He loved her until her last breath and until his last breath. They are now reunited in heaven.

Lonnie attended Marshall High School. He was drafted into the army during the Vietnam war at the age of 20. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle Badge M-14 during his time of service. After serving his two years, he went to Phoenix, Arizona to do iron work. He returned to Marshall where he farmed cattle and worked at Branscum and Harness Mill for over 35 years. When he was younger, he loved to hunt and camp at the river. As he got older, he loved to trade knives and never passed up a yard sale. His favorite saying was ''Well Howdy, Howdy'', followed by a hug. Lonnie was a Searcy County Icon and could be seen out and about all over town. He was a frequent patron of Harps Grocery and the Senior Center and loved to visit with those he ran into. His friendly smile and encouraging talks will be greatly missed by our community, his family and friends. Lonnie was strong in his Christian faith and studied the Word daily. He will always be remembered for helping others.

Survivors include his son, Tim Hinkle of Marshall; daughter, Jeannie Casto (Shawn) of Chimes; grandsons, Austin Beavers (Amber), Braden Hinkle (Kristen), Hunter Casto (Kelsey) and Tucker Casto (Rayya); great-grandkids, Owen, Oliver, Kaisley, Charlotte and another great-granddaughter due in June; and many extended family and good friends.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Hinkle and Tennie Siebuhr; his wife of almost 38 years, Shanna Hinkle; siblings, Bobby Lee Hinkle and Geraldine Hinkle Littleton; and his lifelong friend, Ricky Hogue who passed away in 2024.

Graveside services for Lonnie will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 at Canaan Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. James Horton and Bro. David Branscum officiating. Bearers will be Austin Beavers, Braden Hinkle, Hunter Casto, Tucker Casto, Chris Blair and David Branscum. Following the service Lonnie will be laid to rest beside his precious wife, Shanna who passed away in 2006.

Dear Jeannie and Tim, we were shocked to learn this evening that Lonnie had passed. Dave called Lonnie today to make sure he was OK because Dave had seen lots of cars at Lonnie’s house last night when he was leaving Bigfoot. Now we know why all the cars and police were there, and it’s just unbelievable. Lonnie has been the absolute best neighbor we could’ve ever hoped for these past 30 years. We even share a cat! I have many happy memories of walking with Lonnie and hearing his life stories. I loved his Searcy county mannerisms and word usages. He was jolly, funny, and kind. He stars in many of our family stories and quotes. Once when my sister and I were walking on Highway 27 with Lonnie, he would frequently say, “Don’t you fall in that ditch. If you do, we’ll never get you outta there!” We have quoted him on that these past decades. I loved his stories about coon hunting. I never figured out how he could work all day and hunt all night, but it always proved to me his devotion to his family. I know you also felt his love for you all deeply. May that love and God’s love sustain you in these coming days. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Seems like I've known Lonnie all my life. I did get to know him better as the director of the senior center and enjoyed talking with him, dining with him and playing pitch. He was an encourager and I valued his advice and opinions. He will be greatly missed. His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.
