of Mountain View, AR
February 4, 1941 - January 23, 2026
Joe Jewell passed away Friday night, January 23, 2026, after a lengthy illness. He leaves behind his wife, Susan; brother, Tim (Jane); sister, Suzy (Richard) and is predeceased by his parents and two sons.
Joe was a part of the community of Mountain View for over 30 years, and the majority of those were spent encouraging and mentoring many young musicians and was known to a few as "Papa Joe". He was a regular performer at the Ozark Folk Center State Park until 2024 and started the "Next Generation" Concert Series that's held there every year. Joe was also an accomplished wrestler and helped coach the Mountain View Stingers Youth Wrestling Club.
Before moving to Arkansas, he and his wife, Susan, enjoyed life in the Florida Keys, and later lived aboard and sailed their ketch, the "Dancing Bear" through the Intercoastal and to the Bahamas. They then traded sails for tires and traveled the country, having many adventures and making many friends along the way.
They also saw the world: Iceland, New Zealand, Belgium, and much more. To know Joe and Susan is to love them, and he will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be scheduled and shared with loved ones at a later date.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.

We truly enjoyed knowing Joe. A great friend
and incredible talent on the hammered dulcimer.
May our Lord grant joe eternal peace and repose.

Sue, Jeff and I are so incredibly sorry to hear of the passing of Your dear Joe. The visits we had sitting on the porch at Dad and Mom's home having tea and wonderful conversation were the highlight of our vacations.
We know a huge hole has been left in your heart. Sending our Love.

Prayers to the family. I still enjoy listening to a CD I have of Joe playing the hammered Dulcimer.

Mrs.Susan and family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. May the Lord comfort you as you adjust to the loss of Mr. Joe. He brought pleasure to all that he shared his love of music with. Thank you for supporting him as he shared his knowledge and time to help make it possible for young people in our county to have the opportunity to learn to play the various folk instruments. We have been blessed to have him as a member of our community for over three decades.

A tremendous loss for our community.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Susan.

We will miss our dear friend so very much. We enjoyed working with him, watching him at the Ozark Folk Center and listening to his stories.
