Layne "Boss" Vaughn

of Searcy, AR

December 2, 1938 - January 16, 2026

Layne ''Boss'' Vaughn, 87, of West Point passed from this earth on January 16, 2026. He was born December 2, 1938, to parents Arthur and Leona Vaughn. The sixth of nine children, Boss is preceded in death by siblings Wesley Vaughn, Agnes West, Helen West, Doris Vaughn, Wayne Vaughn, LD Vaughn, and Elvis Vaughn and survived by sister Joyce Bates.

Boss leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Norma Ellis Vaughn; children Karren Rothermel (Chris), Benny Vaughn (Susan), Randy Vaughn(Tanessa), Sherrie Forrest (Joey), and Tonya Larmoyeux (Chris); grandchildren John Rothermel, Jessica Smallen (Clint), Braden Vaughn (Julie), Paetyn Lake (Drew), Madesyn Forrest, Makenzie Forrest, Kinley Ray (Josh), Cade Larmoyeux, Mason Forrest, and Kaci Larmoyeux; great-grandchildren Brielle, Emilia, Eleanor, and Henry.

Many will remember Boss as a devoted servant to his community. While he spent much of his career as a Master Electrician, he retired as a volunteer fireman from Kensett Fire Department and retired Fire Chief from West Point Fire Department. Mr. Vaughn passionately served on the White County Quorum Court for 30 years to improve life in his hometown. His hobbies included deer hunting with family and friends, and he consistently raised a 1.5-acre garden used to feed his relatives and neighbors. Boss was always ready and eager to help those around him, generously sharing both his skills and the fruits of his labor.

Visitation will start at 10:00 am on Monday, January 19 with the service following at 11:00 am at the Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy.

Please leave a memory on the online guestbook for the family to enjoy.

I will always remember Boss as a wonderful and kind man from my childhood. He and Norma always welcomed me to their home with love and kindness when I would visited Tonya back in elementary school. I’m so sorry for your loss, Norma, Tonya, and the rest of your family. May God’s love be close during your time of grief and the knowledge that Boss lives with the Lord bring some comfort. Praying for your family and sending love.

Boss was unique. Prime electrician. Public servant. Knower of laws. Holder of accountability. Guardian of the public interests. Even more than these: Lover of family. Friend.
Boss did his best. What else can be said. A good life is now at rest and at peace.

Boss has been my neighbor for the last 8 years. Nearly every time I would be out mowing the lawn or doing yard work he would pull in and say hello and just chat. I’m going to miss him and his gentle easy going nature. It’s just not going to be the same not seeing his tan ford driving by my house several times a day.
