James Edward Maze II, 61, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2025. He was born in Harrison, Arkansas, and lived a life rooted in family, learning, and the quiet joys of the outdoors.
James was a dedicated teacher who cared deeply about guiding and encouraging others. His patience, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impact on many students and colleagues over the years.
He found his greatest happiness in simple, meaningful moments fishing, farming, and spending time with those he loved most. Family was the center of James's life, and he was never happier than when surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his grandparents, TJ and Geneva Horton, James A. Maze and Neva McGee, and his mother, Kathy Williams.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ali Maze of Yellville, Arkansas; his father, James E. Maze I of Highland, Texas; his step-father, Shirl Williams of Marshall, Arkansas; his siblings, Jennifer (Gene) Griffith of Marshall, Arkansas, Kimm (Todd) Avey of Marshall, Arkansas, Jamie (Roy) Bowling of Highland, Texas, Shaina Maze of Highland, Texas, and Sondra Maze of Highland, Texas; his children, Nick (Tabitha) Maze of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Chris (Crisy) Maze of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Coulter (Ellen) Keisler of Gwinn, Michigan, and Jacie (James) Terrill of Flippin, Arkansas; and his seven cherished grandchildren, Raelynn, Oliver, Edith, Winnie, David, Jaxon, and June.
James will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of family, and the steady care he gave to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved him. A celebration of life will be at a later date.

My deepest condolences to all the Maze family, Christopher Maze, I'm so sorry for the passing of your dad, I remember you sharing stories of your parents, of going to see them on the farm. And fixing fence, or hauling hay. And thank you!! For being a great Director, with Allied Universal.

James was a special person, loved working with him, he will be missed

I had the privilege of working with James at MHJH. Our students were forever calling him Mr Mize and me Mrs Maze we were always laughing about it. He had a big heart and will be greatly missed. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for your family.

So saddened to see this… Mr. Maze was my #1 favorite teacher. He was my high school science teacher. He had a huge impact in my life.
He was so silly! He made each lesson fun! He made a lot of my high school memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Rest in peace Mr. Maze 🖤

So sorry planet earth has lost James Ed but God needed him more and now no pain for him. We will see him again one day. We cherish many fond memories we had with James. See you later James.

James, the memories I have of you will never be forgotten like the times of me and my dad helping you Move hair around the time zone me stopping down just to talk and especially when you used to come to every one of my rodeos and watch me ride bulls. You’ll certainly be missed.

Coach Maze made a huge impact on my sister and I lives won’t forget all of the multiple conversations that we had condolence’s to the Maze family❤️🙏
