This news has been a shock to hear. So very sorry your sorrow. We love your family very much. Mattie was truly a special gift and light to others. I will always remember her. I still can see my Kaylyn and Mattie playing in Kindergarten. Blessed to have been her Kindergarten teacher.

I’m heartbroken for you. Mattie’s passing confounds me. Yet as wife to a man who lost his only sibling when they were both so young, I know well the mixed, the complicated thoughts and feelings that are held when a beloved leaves the trials and pain of this earth and resides with Jesus and -rips apart hearts and lives when they do. Randy recently shared with a sweet family member a verse from Scriptures that he and his parents leaned on when they lost his sister Janie who died at the age of 19. It’s Isaiah 57:1–2. Just part of this deeply challenging while also comforting wisdom is “the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared of evil. Those who walk up rightly enter into peace…”
I pray you find a small measure of peace in the days ahead. That peace —that we cannot truly comprehend as possible. May God walk you through the shadow of death and bring you to His quiet, still waters of His love. I’m so so sorry. I will pray and I will grieve with you.
Love, Joneal

Mattie was bold & loved big.

She loved everyone she knew in a big way & loved them well. She stood up for others and was not afraid of what others thought. She was not ashamed or afraid to talk about her faith but never claimed to be perfect. I’ll never forget the ski trips, a cruise, sleep overs, basketball, softball, yearbook staff, etc. we shared together. We were all so blessed to have known and had her in our lives over the years.
