Evelyn ''Jeanette'' Horis, age 91, of Harrison, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Born February 7, 1934, in Indianola, Mississippi, to Everette and Myrtis (Allen) King, Jeanette lived a long and gracious life marked by hospitality, faith, and devotion to her family.
Jeanette was known for her extraordinary cooking and for the way her kitchen and home were always open, whether to lifelong friends, new neighbors, or a growing family who never left her table hungry. She delighted in playing cards, decorating for Christmas with unmistakable enthusiasm, and spending time camping alongside friends in the couple's travel trailer. A faithful servant in her church for many years, she gave her time and talents with quiet consistency and a loving spirit.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Aaron Horis; her children, Aaron ''Butch'' Horis, Jr. (Laurie) of Harrison and Gwen Morehouse (Steve) of Tennessee; six grandchildren--Lance Triplett, Allison Ingle, Meghan Triplett, Meredith Shackleford, Andrew Horis and Peyton Horis--each of whom she loved dearly. She is also blessed with eight great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy; and a large circle of family and friends who cherished her deeply.
Services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
