George J. Brown passed away peacefully Monday, November 24, 2025 in Searcy, Arkansas. He was born June 6, 1929 in Carthage, Missouri to Frank and Clara Brown. He was a graduate of Carthage High School class of 1947. After high school, he attended the University of Arkansas where he earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1951. After graduating from college, he proudly chose a path of service by joining the army for three years, where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following his time in the service, he taught at Monett High School. He continued to pursue higher education, earning his master's degree in education in 1956 from the University of Arkansas, followed by a doctorate in industrial education from the University of Missouri. In 1966, he joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin College of Industry where he ultimately became Dean.
One of the greatest blessings of his life came on February 2, 1951, when he married Lois Wilhite. Their marriage endured for more than six decades filled with love, mutual support and unwavering companionship. They welcomed three children together, Karen Belanger, Jack Brown and Tina Ziegenbalg.
In 1977, he accepted a new challenge that would define the next two decades of his professional life. He became Chancellor of Southern Arkansas University Tech, a role he held with distinction until 1996. During his nearly 20-year tenure, he championed innovation, expanded educational opportunities and worked tirelessly to ensure that the institution served its students and community with excellence.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and cheering from the sidelines at his grandchildren's sporting events. A devoted Razorback fan, he took great pride in supporting the Hogs through every season. He also had a lifelong love of new cars, finding genuine joy in each one he brought home.
Dr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Brown; brother, Walter Richard Brown and his wife, Lois Brown. He is survived by one son Jack Brown (Jackie); two daughters, Tina Ziegenbalg (Jon), Karen Belanger (Michael); six grandchildren, Zac Brown, Kyle Ziegenbalg, Grace Ziegenbalg, Jennifer Stewart, Kristine Owings and Aaron Joiner and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family (and his beloved dog, Charlie Brown).
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 4th, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the First Methodist Church in Searcy. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Jeff Jackson officiating. Interment will be at the White County Memorial Gardens.
