June 28, 1950 - November 10, 2025

Nettie Sue Gibson, a lifelong resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a short illness on Monday, November 10, 2025 at the age of 75. A dedicated professional in both healthcare and real estate and a devoted mother and grandmother, Nettie's generous spirit and loving nature enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Nettie was born on June 28, 1950 in Jonesboro, the daughter of the late Clarence and Olene Hurst. She pursued a life of service and professionalism. She spent over 55 years fulfilling her role as a Registered Nurse, providing skilled care and comfort. Later, she utilized her vibrant personality and dedication to helping others by working successfully as a Real Estate Agent. While her professional life was marked by dedication, Nettie's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She dedicated her life to loving and supporting her children and embracing her role as a beloved grandmother, leaving a profound legacy of unconditional love. She especially loved taking her grandkids to church camp and enjoying family days at the lake.

Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Gibson and her parents, Clarence and Olene Hurst; brother, Loren Hurst and sister, Pamela Smoak.

She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Barbara McDaniel of Jonesboro, Beverly Liles of Mountain Home and Beth Phillips and her husband, Ryan of Jonesboro. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Cade Liles of Blytheville, Hurston Liles of Mountain Home, Caletta Elliott and her husband, Eric of Jonesboro, Abygail Phillips of Jonesboro and Josie Phillips of McCrory and her precious great-grandsons, Bhric Liles and Brooks Elliot. Nettie is also survived by her brother, Lonnie Hurst and his wife, Helen of Van Buren; her brother-in-law, Richard Smoak of Tanzania, Africa; her sister-in-law, Robbie Hurst of Jonesboro, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Nettie was a devout member of the Pentecostals of Jonesboro (POJ). Formerly Calvary Pentecostal Church, which her father, Clarence, started in the family's living room. The family will receive friends for a Visitation on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. at the Pentecostals of Jonesboro Church (POJ) on South Caraway Road.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Nettie's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Pentecostals of Jonesboro Church (POJ) on South Caraway Road, with interment to follow immediately after at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Hurston Liles, Eric Elliott, Terry Ross, Christopher Hurst, Hayden Hurst and Gordon Smoak. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon David Hurst, Ryan Phillips, Cade Liles, Ladd Hurst, Bhric Liles and Brooks Elliott.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Nettie's memory to The Pentecostals of Jonesboro (The Tanzania Girl's Orphanage Fund, 5312 S. Caraway Rd., Jonesboro, AR 72404).

Nettie and I were childhood friends. We spent endless hours together after church on Sunday. We enjoyed walking to the soda fountain for a cherry cola.

I have always respected and loved the Hurst family and had a special attachment to Pam and to Nettie Sue. I got to help Pam some for her missionary work and just a small favor to Nettie Sue to get her home once from Louisiana. I say a prayer for all her remaining relatives and May God Bless you all.
