Cynthia Burnett Mathias

of Mayflower, AR

February 15, 1954 - October 28, 2025

Cynthia Burnett Mathias, age 71, from Mayflower, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 28,2025 at the UAMS Hospital in Little Rock. Her Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas.

Cynthia was born on February 15, 1954, to Woody and Genevieve Burnett. She was an animal lover from a very young age…especially dogs. She showed and owned many champion dogs of various breeds. She was a member of the American Kennel Club and the Otter Hound Society. She was also a lover of exotic birds. She owned several and got so much pleasure from hearing them talk and watching all their funny antics. She was very involved in The Parrot Posse and encouraged the rescue of these beautiful creatures.

Cynthia worked until her retirement at Shelter Insurance Company. She completed 45 years of employment at Shelter. She was also an avid traveler, especially cruises. She visited many countries and met people that became lifelong friends.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Mathias, her parents, Woody and Genevieve Burnett, her sister, Nadine Gogus and her husband, Jim, her sister, Ora Lee Chudy and her husband, Anthony, and her brother-in-law, Ted Massoth.

She is survived by her fiancé, John Ott, her sister, Jacki Stafford (Jim), her sister, Ruth Massoth, 9 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, her stepdaughter, Joanne Smith, her stepson, Michael Mathias (Jennifer), her stepson, Jamie Mathias (Brittany), 6 step grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Parrot Posse, 1074 Harts Bluff Road, Wadmalaw, SC 29487.

I went to junior high with Cynthia at Ridge Road. Not long ago another friend and I were doing the “whatever happened to” talk & Cynthia’s name came up. I’m glad to know she had a good life, albeit too short. In junior high she had a kind heart. RIP Cynthia

Ooooh Cyn-thee-a! Girlfriend, I am so sad. I already miss our daily rants and raves, sending memes back and forth, venting, laughing, and all the other things that made our friendship great. I am so sad that you missed the Mayor quitting. I know that would have brought you so much joy. You were probably the most impatient person I know. But, it is because you didn't let any grass grow under your feet. If you wanted something done and we didn't do it fast enough, you would start without us. I will keep my promises to you. The boys will be forever loved and cared for. Save me a seat in the funny corner of Heaven.

Cynthia my friend. You were such a light in this world. What a wonderful friend you were. We showed dogs together. We laughed together and had such fun together. You were generous in so many ways. You were always there when someone needed help and you helped them without making it a big deal. You loved so much and so many. I will miss you always.

I am so sorry for the loss of Cynthia. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and to John, her fiancée. I knew Cynthia as a child when we lived across the street from each other and was surprised when I found out she lives in Mayflower also. I know she will be missed.
