Loyd Hightower, a devoted man of faith, a hardworking craftsman and a loving husband and father, went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2025 at the age of 87.
Born on May 5, 1938 in Saddle, Arkansas, Loyd was the last surviving of ten siblings. From humble beginnings, he built a life defined by love, integrity and an unwavering trust in God.
Loyd married the love of his life, Careita, in 1960 and together they shared over six decades of devotion, laughter and service to others until her passing in November 2023. Their love was steadfast a true reflection of God's design for marriage.
A master plumber and proud owner of West Memphis Plumbing and Heating, Loyd worked tirelessly and honestly, earning the respect of everyone he met. His craftsmanship can still be seen throughout the community and his kindness touched countless lives. He was also honored to help build Cypress Avenue Baptist Church, a place that held deep meaning in his walk of faith.
Loyd had a heart for the simple joys in life fishing, working outside, picking up pecans and always enjoying his sweets first. But his greatest joy was his family, especially his beloved daughter Pam, whom he cherished dearly.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and hard work an example of a life well-lived and a servant's heart.
Loyd is preceded in death by his wife, Careita and his nine siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Pam, her husband, Barry Pankey of Marion, AR; Grandsons, Zac Pankey (Addie) of Springdale AR and Jacob Pankey (Abby) of Hagerstown, IN and many dear friends who will miss him deeply but rejoice in knowing he is reunited with his Savior and loved ones in Heaven.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Cypress Avenue Baptist Church with visitation at 1pm and service to follow at 2pm. Burial to follow at Crittenden Memorial Park.
''Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.'' Matthew 25:23

Pam, your heart of gold comes from your Dad. Im sure he is in the arms of your mom and God. RIP Sir.

Mike McCain absolutely loved Loyd! They had such a cute bond. After Loyd would do his repair work, Mike would ask him how much he owed him. He’d stammer a second, then ask Mike if he had any of his homemade pickles. So, a couple of jars of homemade pickles was his payment! 😁😁

Lloyd was indeed one of the last of his kind a very excellent craftsman fair. Honest and hardworking and we considered he and Caritas good friends and we now offer our humble condolences to Pam and her family

Pam
The thing I remember most about your parents is their genuine smile. I knew they loved Jesus deeply, and both loved and served your local church.
It was evident how much they loved you. The days ahead will bring sadness and great joy- they got what they wanted most - Jesus.

Pam and family, sorry to hear about your dad. But oh what a joyous reunion I am sure he had with Coreita. You are in my thoughts and prayers

Mr Loyd was a good, honest Christian man. His church will really
miss him. We’ll be praying for his
family during this difficult time.

Bro Loyd was such a gentle giant, and a great influence on me as a kid. He would always laugh as we talked about things from the past. I am so privileged to have known him and Ms Careita. I will forever consider them secondary parents for a kid that needed godly guidance, which they freely provided me.
I'm heartbroken for Pam, her family, and all of us friends who will miss Bro Loyd as much as we also miss Ms Careita for many years to come, but I am elated to think that another of my friends & family are finally "at peace" in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please don't miss your own opportunity to follow Bro Loyd's example and accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
Thanks for everything, Bro Loyd. See you again, my friend.

Mr. Hightower was a kind and gentle man. For nearly 40 years we had a special bond over old plumbing in our office. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Hightower’s loved ones.
