of Bryant,
June 14, 1935 - September 23, 2025
Evelyn Clara Schimmel (Pittenger) was called home into eternal rest on the morning of September 23, 2025. Evelyn was born on June 14, 1935 to the late Violet and Edward Pittenger. Evelyn was born in Jackson, Nebraska and spent her childhood there. She met her soon to be husband, Willie Schimmel while he was in Air Force basic training in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Evelyn and Willie were inseparable from then until his passing in 2013. During their almost 59-year marriage, they welcomed their two sons, Dale William and Gary Samuel, were blessed with 4 granddaughters, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her sons, Dale (Denise) Schimmel and Gary Schimmel; her granddaughters, Brixey (David) Hendrix, Jessie (Jason) Minor, Bailey (Ross) Smith, and Toni Schimmel; and her great-grandchildren, Collin, Luke, Delilah Minor; Eden and Ruby Hendrix, Lewis Smith; her sister Bev Baker of Sioux City, Iowa; and her brother, Ed Pittenger of Ankeney, Iowa; and a number of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie, her parents, sister Connie, brother John, and her daughter-in-law Deanna.
A faithful member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Evelyn was deeply involved in the Landmark Ladies Auxiliary for many years until her health declined. She was known for her generous spirit, servant's heart, and remarkable cooking-always making sure others were cared before herself.
Evelyn's unwavering devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren, and her selfless nature was apparent to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity and strength. Her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited in heaven with Willie, and is no longer suffering.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fox Ridge Assisted Living in Bryant, Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Encore Heart Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Evelyn in her final years.
Visitation for Evelyn will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, with Funeral Service beginning at 1:00pm, Brother David Robinson will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Landmark Cemetery immediately following the service.
We met Mrs. Evelyn back in March 2022 when we moved Mother Johnnie Bost into Fox Ridge. We always loved visiting with Elelyn. Her presence will be surely missed. Praying for the family.
We all remember Evelyn for her popcorn balls but she was a worker in our church until her health kept her from it. She was a sweet lady. Prayers for the family.
So very sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace and comfort.
What a sweet Lady., loved by all. She will be sorely missed.
I knew Mrs. Evelyn since I was a child, as both our families attended Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. My mom and I went to her home when I was young to be measured for clothing she sewed for us. She had beautiful seamstress skills and her popcorn balls were “the best”. She was known for giving them out at Halloween to not only children, but many parents stopped to get one too. She was a great friend and eventually a neighbor too. She will be missed greatly and fondly remembered. Prayers of comfort and peace for Gary and Dale and family.
Gary and Mrs. Schimmel’s family,
Please accept my sincere condolences
and sympathy.

Dale, Gary & family, we are all praying for all of you.
I had the pleasure growing up knowing your family at church& the community. Evelyn made the best popcorn balls every year at Halloween. You had to get there early because the whole community showed up. I also had the pleasure to work with here at Terminix for several years.
Rest in peace sweet lady. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
