Mrs. Anne, Randy, Ronnie and family - I am so sorry about your loss. Mr. Hartsfield was a great teacher and an even greater man.
He taught me Algebra II and Chemistry at Greenbrier High School. He was so patient and kind and made sure all students who were willing to work with him would be successful in passing the classes he taught. His devotion to his family, his community, and the students and staff of the Greenbrier School District made him much beloved by so many. I never saw him in a bad mood - always a smile and a sweet and joy-filled greeting. He will be missed and remembered for the joy he brought to those of us who were blessed by his teaching and his friendship. His life should inspire us all.

My condolences go out to Mr. Hartsfield's family. He was an amazing teacher and his lessons went far beyond the course he was teaching. I am grateful for having him as a teacher and later being able to work with him as a colleague.
Rest In Peace Mr. Hartsfield. Many...MANY...fond memories of being one of his Students at Greenbrier High School, and a couple of memorable outings with the GHS "Rod and Gun Club". My prayers for Mrs. Anne and the rest of the Family are for the plethora of WONDERFUL memories made with Mr. Joe to soon overwhelm their grief.
Thoughts and prayers go to Ann and family
Dear Anne,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Randy, Veva and Ronny and family. I loved having Joe as a teacher my senior year and working with you while I was going to college. Your family will always be close to my heart. ❤️
I remember you as my math teacher and calling me by Brakebill. But the best was you being our bus driver and letting us ride beside you. We argued over who was going to sit with you. And that occasionally cigarette you smoked while driving was cool. I still remember that cow incident on 25 and ended up sideways in the ditch. You made sure we were all OK. And of course the cow was ok. You will be missed Mr. Hartsfield.
Joe was a Lifetime Friend, so Friendly & Kind! Prayers for Anne & ALL the Family! Heavens Gain...
Mr. Hartsfield was one of my favorite teachers, and I always looked forward to his classes. He will be dearly missed.
Mr. Hartsfield will always be one of favorite teachers. I always looked forward to his class because he was interesting and he made math interesting. I also loved his NASA stories. My condolences to his family.
Joe Hartsfield, was one of a kind. I was working at the greenbrier High school back in the late 70s and early 80s. He always had a smile on his face and always was so friendly but he was a good algebra teacher and loved his students and they thought a lot of him . The heart goes out to his family. You are in our prayers..
Ms. Ann and Family, I loved Mr. Hartsfield and respected him highly. He was one of the nicest men that I have known. I loved his sense of humor and his wittiness, but most of all, I loved the way he took care of you, Ms. Ann. My heart breaks for you at this time. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love you.❤️

Mr. Joe was a Friend to me!!! He was so kind to me at the start of my long journey here at Greenbrier High School. He and Rusty Noggle help me grow the most beautiful plants in the office by "flipping" their cigarette ashes in the planters! What a joy he was to work along side. He was a wise man and full of knowledge that was worthy to learn. He was a Dear Friend!!!!
Oh my goodness. This man taught me so much that I have used all my life. He was an encourager and an avid believer in young people. Thank you Mr. Hartsfield for teaching me that there's no such thing as cold, only absence of heat, how to always set up an algebraic problem correctly, it's saved me money and won me bets with others more than I want people to know and for always recognizing the smile of an awkward 8th grader with big ol' braces at good ole GHS! He taught me it was okay to smile big and often. Prayers to his family. He was a great man.
Many prayers for the family 🙏❤️
Anne and family, we send our sincere sympathy and prayers for comfort and strength.
Mr. Hartsfield was the absolute best! He taught so many of us life lessons along with academics. He will be greatly missed. RIP Mr. Hartsfield.
Looking back I know we had a lot of great teachers but Mr Hartsfield was my absolute favorite . Whether it was his long middle finger pointing at one of the chemical formulas or his picking up a chair by one leg and never bending his wrist or telling an awesome hunting story or giving me a well deserved scolding he is and will always be one of my favorite memories! Prayers for all the family!
My earnest prayers going up for this wonderful family.I had the pleasure of having the wonderful man for math teacher i struggled with math and told him i couldnt do it. That got me on the front row in his class and he encouraged me ,pushed me .He had a way to make me understand by the end of the school year i was doing his algebra problems that went across his whole caulk board...Thank you Mr.Hartsfield for being my teacher...I have no doubt if theres someone in heaven that cant do math your teaching ...cant wait to stroll across heaven with you... with all my love Nancy Fulton
