Sharon Patton Counts passed away on September 17, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Samuel ''Pete'' Counts, whom she met on a blind date and eloped with shortly thereafter.
Sharon graduated from Little Rock Central High School, followed by a 20-year career at First National Bank.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Carol Patton Brown and brother, Robert Lee (Buddy) Cooper. Survivors include her husband, Pete; cousin, Bettye Daley; nieces, Ina Ward (Boyd) and Caryn Smith (Keith) and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
Sharon spent much of her life devoted to animals of all kinds. She was on the board of the Pulaski County Humane Society and served there in many different capacities. The joy of her life was rescuing, healing and sheltering animals in need.
The family thanks everyone at Arkansas Hospice care for their tender, loving care in her last days. The family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
Buddy—So sorry to hear of the passing of Sharon. She was a beautiful woman!!!
I knew Sharon in the late 1970's when we worked in the same building, her for First National Bank and me for AP&L. She convinced me to adopt a scruffy little dog that washed up at the Humane Society during the flood of 1978. She even wrote a poem about him, Scruffy Duffy the Benji Looking Puppy. Sharon made the world a better place for animals and people and she will be missed.
Pete, we've never met, but Sharon told me many stories of your rescuing her and her beloved pups from all sorts of unlikely situations. You were her rock.
We had phone conversations about turtles especially, and about other animals she was so dedicated to rescuing, too. Talking with her was always a delight, because regardless of the difficulties and challenges she encountered, she was unfailingly funny and cheerful.
I'm so sad she's gone, and I'll miss her always.
Pete: so sorry for your loss. God be with you

I was saddened to see Sharron’s name in the paper today. In my memories she will always be that young, beautiful girl I worked with at FNB all those years ago. Heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
Sharon your sweet smile will never be forgotten. You were a beautiful inspiration for this small town girl who admired you in many ways. I loved working beside you with Joy Greer,John Coker and others at FNBLR. I live looking at pictures during my time there. You were responsible for getting me my most favorite dog. You enjoyed your job and you were great at it.
Pete, I was so shocked to see Sharon in the Obits this morning. I am so sorry we did not have that visit that we spoke of sometime ago. Sharon and I go way back and I always loved her. She was such a wonderful person and did so much for our animal friends. Praying for you Pete in the loss that you must feel at this time. Love. Peggy.
This world was blessed with having Sharon in it. She was a light for FNB with helping everyone who came into the lobby. She was a special friend to me and I loved her dearly.
ANY animal was so happy to see her and she helped them all. RIP dear. 🙏🏼
My dear friend, Sharon rescued horses, dogs, cats, birds and even turtles. She helped lots of people along the way as well. Sharon was a wonderful friend! I’m going to miss her. Pete, I am holding you in my heart. My deepest sympathies to you and family.
We loved seeing Mrs Sharon and talking animals with her. I still remember her getting the betta fish and just falling in love with it. We have greatly missed her at the store. We are thinking of you Pete during this difficult time. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Please reach out if we can do anything.
We are thinking of you at this time. Prayers for you and your family.
