June 2, 1940 - September 13, 2025
Herschel Wayne Morgan entered this world on June 2, 1940, born at the family homestead in Senath, Dunklin County, Missouri, the beloved son of Albert George Morgan and Freida Evelyn Powers Morgan. One of eight children, Herschel was raised on Robinson Curve, Holcomb, Missouri, where his father secured a 40 acre piece of land which the family sharecropped. Some of his most treasured memories were of long days spent picking cotton alongside his siblings in the fields of Southeast Missouri - moments too precious and too many to ever count.
One summer evening at the Little Brick Church in Senath, Missouri, being somewhat ''compromised'', Herschel climbed through a church window and saw the most beautiful, curly haired, freckle faced girl he had ever laid eyes on and immediately knew she was the love of his life. He quickly found out her name was Joyce Wilene Alphin and her daddy was the evangelist holding the revival. It was more than infatuation that captured his heartstrings though and it was in that revival that he repented of his sins and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:38; it was this Pentecost experience that changed the trajectory of his life.
He and Joyce fell quickly in love and eloped on June 19, 1961 in Caruthersville, Missouri. The newlyweds jumped on a bus to Rockford, Illinois to begin their life together as husband and wife. To this union 6 wonderful children were born.
After a number of moves and different jobs along the way, he embarked on a truck driving career"a profession he embraced and loved.
While attending the First Pentecostal Church in Kennett, Missouri, under the pastorate of Bro. Fowler, Herschel experienced a life-changing moment. After witnessing a remarkable miracle for his baby girl, he surrendered to the call of God on his life.
Together, the Morgans embraced adventure, traveling the country and faithfully ministering while serving the Kingdom wherever God led them.
Through their unwavering commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, Herschel and Joyce established a lasting foundation of faith for their family. Herschel imparted to his children a true servant's heart and found great joy in seeing all of his sons enter the ministry and all of his grandsons answer the call of God upon their lives. His daughters and granddaughters also carry forward his legacy by serving the Kingdom of God in a variety of ministries.
Herschel's humor and zest for life left an impression on all who knew him, but it was his love for God, his devotion to Truth, and his contagious spirit of worship that truly defined his life. His faith, passion for God, and dedication to prayer live on through his family, and the seeds of ministry he faithfully sowed continue to yield a rich and lasting harvest.
Herschel is preceded in death by his parents, Albert George Morgan and Freida Evelyn Morgan; his sister, Lillian Morgan Johnson; his brothers, Everett Morgan, Martin Morgan, LC Morgan and grandson, Zathan Morgan.

He is also survived by his beloved nephew Donald Byrd, whom he considered a son, his wife Frances and their son Zechariah of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, many of whom he held close to his heart as if they were his own children. To so many, Herschel was more than family"he was a father figure and a Godly mentor whose impact will not be forgotten.
From the simple joys of a slice of watermelon and delicious pecan pie to the lively dance of a jig and the power of a Spirit-filled worship service, Herschel Wayne Morgan's memory will be forever interwoven into the moments that brought him the greatest joy.
He touched each of our lives in a way that was both personal and unique, leaving an indelible mark that we will carry with us always. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. While his presence will be greatly missed, his legacy will continue to live on through future generations.
