of Lamar, AR
August 4, 1949 - July 3, 2025
Charles R. Dillard of Lamar, Arkansas, departed from this earth on July 3, 2025, in Clarksville, Arkansas, at the age of 75. He was of the Baptist faith; he donated much time working at the Baptist Vista Church Camp. Charles grew up on Cherry Grove Lane on the farmland of his grandparents, John and Ruby Gayle.
In his younger years, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he finished his career as a machine operator, keeping the tracks maintained. Upon retiring from the railroad, he furthered his father's dreams of turning the family land into a working farm. At the peak of his farming career, with the help of his brother, wife, son, and grandchildren, he ran 5 broiler houses on Cherry Grove Lane as well as multiple herds of commercial cattle. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren camping and skiing at Piney Bay and Lake Ouachita. Charles was a man of purpose; if you knew him, you knew he was a doer. Always happy to lend a hand with help, whether you wanted the help or not, he would show up prepared to get the job done his way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Claudine Dillard, sister Judy Sparks, and brother Johnny Dillard.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Dillard, and his two sons, Chad Dillard of St. Paul, Minn., and Heath Dillard of Lamar. Four grandchildren, Slade Dillard of Olympia, Wash., Logan Clayborn (Dillard) of Lamar, Olivia Dillard of Pottsville, and Jade Dillard of Lamar. His brothers are Terry of Lamar, Larry of Van Buren, Bryant of Farmington, and his sister Joyce Wilkins of Lamar.
Arrangements are being made under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville, and a private service for Charles will be held at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family wishes for donations to The Gideons International.
