Anne Ross Hurst

of Germantown, TN

November 21, 1932 - June 29, 2025

Anne Ross Hurst passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the Village of Germantown in Germantown, Tennessee. Born on November 21, 1932, in Gilmore, Arkansas, to Baxter B. and Mary R. Ross, Anne lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by her love for faith, family, and community.

For over 70 years, Anne called Marion, Arkansas, her home, a community she cherished deeply. She was a woman of many talents and passions: an avid gardener who brought beauty to the world around her, a skilled seamstress whose hands crafted everything from smocked baby clothes, draperies, upholstery and more. She was also a skilled and spirited bridge player who relished a good game with friends. Her faith shone brightly as an active member of Marion United Methodist Church. In 2023, she relocated to the Village at Germantown, where she spent her final years surrounded by new friends, care and love.

Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Alfred F. Hurst, with whom she built a life full of devotion and shared memories. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her two sons, Edward Baxter Hurst (Sonia) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Charles Alfred Hurst (Suzanne) of Germantown, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Ross Scott Hurst (Audrey) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Caroline Orman Chappell (Josh) of Germantown, Tennessee; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia Dianne Orman, William Charles Hurst, Elizabeth Laine Hurst, and Eleanor Anne Chappell, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her brother, Robert R. Ross of Memphis, Tennessee, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, J.W. Ross, Roy Ross, Ray Ross, Arnold Ross, and Louise Ross Jones.

There will be a chapel service at 10:00am Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis and in keeping with Anne's wishes, a private family internment will be held at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice, reflecting Anne's generous spirit. Arrangements are entrusted to Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, Arkansas. Friends and loved ones may sign an online guestbook below.

Anne's warmth, grace, and unwavering love for those around her will be forever remembered

I lived next door to Mrs Anne for a couple of years and also went to church with her. She was so sweet and also had a great sense of humor. She was an amazing gardener and seamstress. I just hung curtains today that she sewed for me.
I'm so grateful for the visit I had with her last year. She was so full of wisdom and spiritual guidance. Prayers for her friends and family!!

Mrs Hurst was the epitome of a southern belle and was gracious and kind to all. My parents thought a lot of her and so did we. She raised two great boys and was very active in United Methodist Women. So glad she was surrounded by family the last few years of her life.

Mrs. Hurst was my grandmother's neighbor, then my neighbor for 17 years. I so enjoyed our conversations. I've missed her since she moved. I am so glad I will see her again one day at the feet of Jesus.

Praying that the God of all comfort will give you the peace that passes all understanding as you walk through this time of grief.

Butch & Family,
Your Mother was such a precious lady. I ( Nannette) remember when she invited her friends over to play cards. What fun times they had.

Her yard & flower garden were always a showcase! She was forever working outside. I can see her now, smiling & waving anytime we saw her. Years ago, she invited me to come over to get some clippings from her flower bed for me to root. I was absolutely on cloud nine!

When she moved, I missed seeing her very much. But I’m so thankful they she had that time with her family.
Our prayers are with you all. It’s very hard to lose a parent.

It is Well with my Soul! Psalm 33:22

I didn’t ever meet her but my older family members were familiar with the family in years gone by. The Dodson farm at Gilmore was in the family years ago. It has been years since I’d seen her brother,Ray , whom I really had a great visit with of all places at a doctors office. I’m sorry for your loss but I’m sure she’s happy being reunited with family members. May all of you have peace at this difficult time. “Jim” Bond
