Johnny was an Army Helicopter Medic, a finish Carpenter, furniture maker and the eldest of four brothers. After experiencing radical life change through the Gospel of Jesus, Johnny devoted the last 23 years of his life to discipleship, starting and leading Celebrate Recovery Ministries and other Gospel centered ministries. God used Johnny to disciple and train others to take the lead in these ministries across the state of Arkansas. Johnny loved reading God's word and sharing what God revealed to him with others. He was committed to sharing the hope of Jesus with as many people as he could. Even in his last months, he found excitement being transferred to different hospitals. Johnny saw this as God paving the path for him to share Jesus with a new group of people. If you were ever in ministry with Johnny, or worked on a construction project with him, you knew that Johnny always wanted to do things well. He loved his wife, Gayle and the bonus family that God provided him. He proudly wore the name Papa!

Jon was a good friend of mine in Hardy Ar when he lived there out close to the old Razorback restaurant .. Super awesome guy built a deck for me on back of my then home solid as a rock this thing was.. Jon would say it takes 3 screws to secure the decking boards don’t bow up like pine lumber wants to do.. Just enjoyed my time with him always a gentleman to my wife and kids.. I was so pleased to read he had devoted his life to the lord I knew Jon had that in him I remember talking to him several different times about the lord I knew he was a believer.. Was the weirdest thing Jon just showed up in my mind today just like he was standing there with that big smile! I had to look him up although I hadn’t really thought much about him in sometime but when I pulled this up I knew without a doubt I was meant to see this the good lord still at work! Rest well my friend sry we didn’t get to caught up! Your hillbilly buddy Richard

Johnny and I did not serve together but we served at the same time and same place.

Johnny carried a medical bag while I carried a rifle.

Whenever the shooting started, I ran for cover, Johnny ran to the wounded.

While I looked for someone to shoot, Johnny looked for someone to save.

Most people think it takes great courage to be in a gunfight, imagine the courage it takes to go to a gunfight without a gun.

Johnny was one of the victims of that war. He made some serious mistakes, some bad decisions.

The war never ended for Johnny and at the end of his life he was still looking for the wounded, for someone to save.

He was my friend and a brother.

Johnny Cupples had a huge hand in me becoming a Christian. He and I ran around together before we were saved by Jesus. He was saved first and would take me to church knowing I wasn’t sober of illegal substances but he never judged me he just kept loving me and praying for me. Once saved he and I would aught Sunday school together and facilitated Celebrate Recovery!!
He was very important and very influential in my life!!
I’ll see you again in heaven cuz 🙏🏻
