Jessie Floyd Castleman

of Conway, AR

August 12, 1928 - May 29, 2025

Floyd Castleman, 96, of West Helena and most recently Conway, died Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was born on August 12, 1928, in Crockett County, Tennessee to Jamie Levi and Gracie Maurine Castleman. He married Clara Mae Carter on March 1, 1947, which he said was ''the best decision I ever made.'' He was in good health almost to the end, living independently and regularly driving himself to Walmart and Golden Corral. He essentially died of ''old age.''

He was employed by AP&L/Entergy in West Helena for nearly 39 years as a truck driver, groundman, and jack-of-all-trades before retiring in 1990. He also worked hard to help support his family with extra earnings as a mechanic, electrician, and tree trimmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara, his wife of almost 50 years, a son, Lynn Castleman, and 8 siblings.

He is survived by a daughter, Paulette Darnell (Jim) of Conway, a son, Rusty Castleman (Cathy) of Southside, and a daughter-in-law Linda Castleman, of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Castleman of Clarksville, Jamie Castleman (Valerie) of Clarksville, Justin Castleman (Kelly) of Bryant, Elizabeth Garner (Mark) of Conway, Brad Darnell of Conway, Katee Castleman McAllister (John) of Spartanburg, SC, and Mary Farley (Jared) of Fort Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Miles Castleman (Addison), Karlee Castleman, Carson Ronio, Cadence Williams, Lucy Farley, Mary Jewel ''MJ'' McAllister, and Sam Farley.

After retirement he busied himself with mowing grass, daily walks, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball. When he moved to Conway eight years ago to be closer to family, he continued his daily walks at The Greens at Nutters Chapel golf course. During his walks he began picking up abandoned golf balls, becoming known to many as ''the golf ball man'' - he accumulated over 18,000 balls before recently selling them to a bulk buyer.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4th at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be Thursday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena (Barton).
