of Benton, AR
November 13, 1947 - January 1, 2025
Kathy Holt, 77, of North Little Rock, passed peacefully in the early morning hour of the New Year 2025 while residing at the Southern Charm Senior Living home in Benton, Arkansas. She was born in Austin, Texas on November 13, 1947 to Wardell and Jimmie Wash.
She was retired from the Arkansas Division of Legislative Audit after 34 years. She was a creative mind and very crafty. Her hobby was being involved in a card maker club and loved to design and create personal cards for family and friends during the holidays and special occasions. She once served on a local Hot Air Balloon crew and loved participating and attending the balloon events. She enjoyed going on travel excursions with friends but most of all cherished the final years with her mother of 98 years until she passed in 2020.
Her love for the outdoors, animals, birds and scenery God provided was a staple of her thoughts, pictures and artwork. She was an avid fan of the Texas Longhorn Teams and enjoyed visiting the new Longhorn babies on her sons ranch. Over the years she attended Fellowship North and Park Hill Baptist Church. She loved her son and daughter deeply and provided, sacrificed, supported and comforted them until her last day.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Pat King of Shirestown, Pennsylvania; her son, Jeff Holt (Caesi) of Bryant, Arkansas; A daughter, Allison Blessing (Michael) of Vilonia, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Nikki Faye Blessing, Jaxon Ward Holt, Carlee Grace Holt and John Ryder Holt.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home, 6700 Alcoa Rd, Benton, Arkansas 72015.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home.
I met Kathy (by phone) in June 2004 while providing tech support for her work Printer/Copier (from all the way in New Brunswick, Canada). We shared a few laughs together and I was able to assist with resolving her issue by phone without sending a technician onsite. After we disconnected, I cheekily sent her an email with an "Honorary Technician" certificate attached, which made her reply with laughter. From there we started sending joke "forwards" regularly and became regular email pen pals for the next decade, until around 2014 when communication seemed to have slowed down (likely due to retirement and caring for her own mother and family). We never agreed politically, but we were always able to connect in other ways. We just talked about life and current happenings. She loved her family and her grandchildren so much. From time to time, we would send each other a care package that contained items or goods from "our neck of the woods". Being from Canada, of course I sent her some maple syrup! I sent her some dulse (sun-dried seaweed, a salty maritime treat) and she hated it. I laughed when she wrote back “Sorry, but I had to give that terrible Dulse away to a co-worker! She loved it but I hated it!” Also, as I knew she enjoyed Titanic related history, I sent her some items from one of the museums in Halifax, NS. She let me know that she was also fond of the "Anne of Green Gables" story, so I sent some items from around neighboring Prince Edward Island after a trip I made in 2009. She would send me items from Little Rock including from the Presidential Library there. One day in 2005, I overslept and was late for work. As a joke she sent me a new digital alarm clock and a card that read to "help get you out of bed and to work on time". Well, that alarm clock is still on my nightstand 20 years later and I am still using it to this day! No need to convert to an alarm on my phone when I have a perfectly good and working one from Kathy! I sadly only learned of your passing this morning after reconnecting with our mutual friend, Paula. As it had been some time since we chatted, I searched your name and sadly found this obituary. I'm sorry that we lost touch for most of the last 10 years. We did briefly reconnect in 2017 by Messenger when I was passing through Arkansas on a road trip Toronto to Dallas. However, I was with other people with a set destination and was not able to figure out a way to try meet in person even if just a brief “hello” after finally being in your "neck of the woods" all these years later. That is my one regret. I truly hope you are at peace now. I send condolences to your family and loved ones. I hope this is continued proof to anyone out there reading this that you CAN discover connections with different people around the world that you may never expect - especially if you don't fully agree on much politically! Thank you for your friendship, Kathy (and for making sure I wake up each day for work on time). You are missed. ♥
