Melvin Walter Leslie, age 73, from Little Rock, passed away during the historic total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. He was born on August 30, 1950 to Lauren and Annie Bell Leslie. Melvin was a loved member of the New Haven Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas and loved the Lord.

In his younger years, Melvin was an excellent swimmer, often outdoing his siblings at the Alpine Pool. He was also an active CB radio user, spending many evenings chatting with strangers. Additionally, he loved to go wheeling to Stevie Wonder songs at Troy's and Bowman skating rinks. Melvin was a big fan of classic rock and country music and even traveled to see his favorite band, The Oakridge Boys, in concert.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Lauren Leslie; his mother, Annie Leslie-Gicante and his step-father of 25 years, Joe Gicante. He is survived by his siblings, David Leslie, Velma Bandy (Robert) and Lorretta Self (John), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Melvin was a friendly man who never met a stranger and had an infectious personality.

A Memorial Service will be held to honor Melvin on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 am. The service will be held at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church located at 19824 Lawson Road, Little Rock, AR 72210. The family will receive visitors after the service.

Melvin was my great Uncle and a Great Great uncle to my children, you were love and will be missed until we meet again! You always made me smile due to your joyful presence! I will hold our memories of family holidays and getting together visiting watching tv over at grandma self’s and thinking as a child you was the tallest man around and bring us the news paper! Rest in love uncle Mervin we love you!
