of Batesville, AR

February 6, 1929 - April 8, 2024

Maxine V. Latting, 95, of Batesville passed away Monday, April 8, 2024.

She was born February 6, 1929 in Cord, Arkansas to John Ruben Latting and Lucy Olen (Churchill) Latting.

Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church of Batesville and a member of the Extension Homemakers Council (EHC). She was a graduate of Cord High School's Class of 1946 and went on to attend Arkansas College. She taught school and was also a Librarian for 39 years split between Strawberry, Cord, Mississippi County and Benton Public Schools and is a member of Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. Maxine was truly one of a kind, she was very intelligent and had a great memory, and she never met a stranger and loved genealogy which always prompted her to inquire about who you were related to. She would always go out of her way to help people. She also loved to cross stitch and knit. In her later years she became a volunteer at White River Medical Center logging over 6000 hours over the span of her 21 years serving the community.

Survivors include her niece, Leslie Latting of Cord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Floyd Ray Latting; sister-in-law, Peggy Mack Latting; and nephew, Floyd Mack Latting.

Graveside services will begin at 10:00am Friday, April 12, 2024 at Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Jeff Childers officiating.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Independence County Library, 267 E Main St, Batesville, AR 72501 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016-5337 support.kidney.org.

I worked as a student aide for Miss Latting at Eastside Junior High while in the 7th and 8th grades and again at Benton High School in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. She was always kind and easy to talk to. One of my favorite teachers. Prayers for her family.
