of Vilonia, AR
September 29, 1933 - January 7, 2024
Norma Jane Casey Varner, age 90, left this earth for her heavenly home on January 7th, 2024. She was born Sept. 29th, 1933 in Enola, AR to Rufus and Bessie Phillips Casey. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Carmon Varner, who passed November 2nd, 2021 and three brothers and six sisters: Quentin Casey, Faber Casey, Elwood Casey, Ruby Kleimchein, Carma Moore, Mildred Archer, Hazel Fairchild, Margie Widner and Climie Curtis. She was one of 15 children, with 13 surviving to adulthood.
Surviving is her son, Steve Varner (Karen) of Vilonia and three daughters, Janice Housley (Larry) of Mabelvale, Beverly Fitzpatrick (Brent) of Maumelle and Betty Freeman (Steve) of Ovilla, TX. Nine surviving grandchildren include Simon, Elizabeth, Eric, Katie, Tyler, Britney, Casey, Samuel, Ara and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Russell Casey of LaPorte, IN, Randell Casey of Naylor, AR and Jewell Quesnel of Sherwood and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norma had a sustaining great faith. Her faith in the Lord strenghtened her journey when Carmon was ill. Her children recalled her vocal prayers talking to God as if He was standing next to her. (He was) She freely discussed the vibrant colors of flowers and trees and was in awe that the Creator, in His wisdom, had placed tiny seeds in fruits and vegetables that could produce such an abundance of food. Without hesitation her comment was that only the Lord could work such a miracle.
In her childhood, Norma picked a lot of cotton, but for her it was a time for fellowship with family. One of her greatest joys was being with her large family and sharing stories. After raising her four children, Norma worked for Fred's Discount Store in Conway. Coworkers and friends noted the special attention she gave customers. Norma is perhaps most known for her sharp wit and readiness to share a new joke at the delight of others. Her sense of humor equaled her love of others. She loved colorful clothing and cute shoes. Her welcoming demeanor and love for decorating her house always made you feel at home with ease. Norma's chocolate gravy, cream pies, chicken and dumplings and homemade biscuits couldn't be matched. Norma worked hard, but she always loved life. She will be greatly missed by all.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Brent Fitzpatrick and Steve Freeman. Honorary pallbearers are Russell Casey, Randell Casey, Larry Housley and Floyd Quesnel.
The family wishes to thank all the angelic care givers at Hospice Home Care.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Vilonia, Arkansas. Service will begin at 11:00 am.
Arrangements are by Roller McNutt. Conway, Arkansas.
Norma's service will be live streamed for those that cannot attend and can be found at this link:

I was fortunate enough to have met Mrs Norma and Mr Carmen at the Vilonia senior citizen center. She was always smiling carrying that chicken shaped purse when they’d come in.
I watched their house be built as we live in the same area. She was so proud of it! Especially the front porch! I was able to stop for quick visits and she and I would catch up with how our friends were as she knew everyone I did. We talked a lot about my daddy and she always encouraged me having just the right words.
It would warm my heart to drive by noticing several cars there frequently which usually signaled CAKE! (I’d find a place to turn around )
What a sweet family ! That’s such a reflection of the parents. I will miss her too. Tamara (she called me the goat woman)

Norma was a special person. She was the grandma of my daughter-in-law, Liz. When Liz's mom, Janice took me to meet Norma the first time, Norma was so welcoming and made a delicious meal and made me feel like family. She was a wonderful hostess and so friendly. It was an honor to get to visit with Norma several times and enjoy her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. You will be missed Norma. ??

Mrs. Varner could light up the room with her smile and friendliness! Happy for her home going but sad for the family! Praying for your comfort and peace.

Our Aunt Norma Jane was a blessing to all those who knew her. She loved her Lord and her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and heaven has become an even more joyous place now that she is there.

That's such a perfect picture, she always looked just that happy the few times I had the pleasure being with her. So sorry for your loss but she lives on in your heart forever. ??

My dear Beverly, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know what it's like to loose your mom. But she will always be with you in all the memories you both made

Aunt Norma was 10 years old when I was born. So, we kinda grew up together. When i recall those memories she was always sweet and loving toward me just like she was to everyone. Time and distance separated us but not my love for her and all the Casey’s. Sad day. Super happy she had all those grandchildren and great grandchildren

I am so sorry for your loss she was one special lady

While I have not had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Varner, I know her daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Larry Housley and to raise a daughter as lovely as Janice she had to be a wonderful Mom.

Steve, my deepest sympathy at the loss of your Mother. May she Rest In Peace.

Mrs Varner was a sweetheart. It’s been years since I have seen her but sure enjoyed her. She was such a nice lady. Thoughts and prayers are with her family.
