Elza James ''EJ'' Wainscott, 98, of Jonesboro, AR passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs. He was born on January 5, 1926 in Jonesboro, AR to Rosco and Eva (Cooper) Wainscott. He was a member of Windover Baptist Church. Elza was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII. He worked construction, mainly concrete work until his retirement and loved boating, fishing, bowling, going to the lake and hunting.

Preceding him in death are his loving wife of 69 years, Wanda; his parents; daughter, Gail Backer; grandson, Michael Holcomb and 2 siblings.

Left to cherish his memory are son, James F. (Lou) Wainscott; daughter, Rhonda (Rick) Holcomb; grandchildren, Paige Webb, James M. Wainscott and Dr. Sarah McKenzie; great grandchildren, Madison McCormack, Kyland Holcomb, Tyler Holcomb and Ethan Holcomb and a host of friends and loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Ave., Jonesboro, AR 72401 with James F. Wainscott officiating. A private burial will follow.

A visitation will precede the service beginning at 1pm at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home.

E.J. went to school with my mom, Glenda Craft. They also lived at the Bungalows at the same time. Mom so enjoyed visiting with him & enjoying memories of school days! He was always so kind to her & mom often talked of how nice he was! A great man!
