Denease Woods

of Alpena, AR

April 10, 1942 - December 10, 2023

C. Denease (Richardson) Woods, age 81, of Alpena, Arkansas received her healing when she went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Cox Medical Center in Branson, Missouri, surrounded by family.

She was born on April 10, 1942, to Ervin B. and Winnie Jetton (Garrison) Richardson on a farm in Carroll County, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Alpena (AR) High School, class of 1960. She earned a bachelor's degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1964 and a master's degree in counseling from Henderson in 1987. She taught for 16 years and was a school counselor for 13 years.

On December 28, 1963, Denease married the love of her life, L. Clinton Woods at the Alpena Assembly of God Church. Together they had two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Her hobbies included cooking and sewing (10 of her 16 years were spent teaching Home Economics). She loved spending time with her family. From a young age, she started teaching each of her grandkids how to cook by making pancakes with them in her kitchen.

Denease was a Christian and loved Jesus with all her heart. She was a prayer warrior who not only covered her family in prayer but showed them how to pray and live by her example. She battled multiple health problems for many years and although our hearts are broken, we are so thankful that she is no longer suffering.

Denease is survived by two daughters, Tonia Horn and husband, Kevin of Sherwood and Melissa Barnard and husband, Scott of Green Forest; five grandchildren, Chris Barnard and wife, Stephanie of Bentonville; Hunter Barnard and wife, Jennifer of Alpena; Katheryn Cole and husband, Christian of Ennis, TX; Brady Barnard and wife, Payton of Berryville and Emily Horn of Sherwood; two great-granddaughters, Kinley Barnard and Eleanor Barnard; one sister, Brenda Bell of Green Forest; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Zermatten and husband, Martin of North Little Rock and Pam Richardson of Oklahoma and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Woods; her parents, Ervin and Jetton Richardson; her sister, Charlotte Clark; her brother, Blaine Richardson and her in-laws, Reverend and Mrs. G. C. Woods.

Visitation was on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with the funeral following, with Reverend Clint Powers officiating. Burial was at Alpena Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scott Barnard, Kevin Horn, Chris Barnard, Hunter Barnard, Brady Barnard, and Christian Cole.

Honorary pallbearers were Home Instead and her caregivers, Bonnie and Erin, and Ginger Fiveash.

A wonderful Christian lady who I have had the honor of knowing for several years. She always put others first. Her family was ALWAYS in her prayers. Denease was a woman of faith. I am going to miss our Sunday service where we worshiped freely in her home. She was unable to get out to attend Church. But we had church every Sunday..and sometimes we would get happy and loud. Love you Denease

Denease was one of the kindest souls. Her sweet spirit just went before her wherever she went. We know that she is getting her crown now as she sits with her heavenly father. Thank you Denease for being part of our life and church.

Denease and her family were long time friends of ours. It was our privilege and honor to be her pastors for a lot of years.
We love all of them more than words could express.
