When I first met Josh, he was so young and fresh. I attended church with him and his beautiful family. Soon, he began to take the Word of God to heart. Josh surrendered his life to Jesus, and I had the amazing privilege to baptize him. Shortly after that, we became more than just acquaintances… we became friends, close friends. We raised our kids together. We celebrated birthdays together. We gathered for the holidays together. We took vacations together. He was like a younger brother to me, and I loved him.

When we planted a brand-new church in the community of Brookland, no one was more excited than Josh. When we built our building, he was right there helping. He mowed grass, he painted boards, he stacked lumber, and swept floors. He was so proud and thankful for the place God gave us to worship and minister. When we moved into the building, he served in our hospitality ministry as a greeter and on our security team. He was a faithful part of our work.

This past year was a difficult one for Josh. He faced many challenges and suffered much. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about how hard the past year had been on him. Yet, his spirit was unbroken. He looked to the future with hope. He continually relied on his faith to get through the hardest days. Now, his faith has been made sight. He no longer struggles. He no longer suffers. He rests in perfect peace with His Lord and Savior.

I will see my friend again. I will hear his laugh and feel his embrace again. Until that time, I will miss him. Today, I am grateful for the privilege to know and love Josh for the time we were given. The world will simply not be the same without him.

Dear Josh,
Our life started when I took you and JC, at 4 years old, to register for pre kindergarten, in Bay St. Louis. One of the sayings you picked up was, “Who Dat!”. You loved The Saints ever since. Proud to have known you, in this life; look forward to seeing you in Heaven.
