Arlis and I share the same great grandfather, Davis Hatfield Baler. who brought his family to Mt. Vernon / Mt. Nebo, Arkansas from Carpenter, Kentucky around the beginning of the 1900s. He purchased a section of land at Mt. Nebo (Faulkner) and a section of land in Barney (Faulkner). Grandfather Davis knew honesty and he knew hard work. Some of those genes made it into the blood stream of Arlis Clark Baker, his great grandson. The old saying; " If a task is once begun, never leave it until it is done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all." Arlis was skilled at his work and was right at home bringing new and shiny life to some passed over relic of bygone years or creating a brand-new critical part for a jet airplane. He was as tough as a hickory nut and could be as soft and gentle as a velvet glove
Arlis and Flodine were life partners. I don't remember seeing both without a disarming smile - they were easy to love. We shared some precious moments with them at the Golden Corral and I am grateful that I have been permitted to know them and to have walked upon their path a little.
May the Great God in Heaven bless and keep Flodine and their posterity in the hollow of his hand. May they be able to cherish the best memories of their husband and dad.

Arlis was a wonderful friend to Ivy and me. The two of them would really enjoy out talking the other. I am so sad I can’t be there for his service. Much love to the family and especially my darling friend, Flodine.
