Gary Hayden Caldwell

of Conway, AR

December 25, 1940 - October 26, 2023

Gary Hayden Caldwell, 82, of Conway, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26 at home with his family. Gary was born in Mount Vernon, Arkansas on December 25, 1940 to Elvis and Verdie (Keathley) Caldwell. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Sublett and Peggy Tankersley.

Gary was a long-time member of Liberty Church of Christ in Conway. He loved his church family. Gary retired from FMC Corporation in Conway. Gary's passion was on his family farm in Mount Vernon on top of Tanyard Hill, working and tending to his cattle with his wife, Bonnie. That is where he found contentment in his later years.

Gary was an avid sports fan and he played in two high school state basketball tournaments for Mount Vernon School. He enjoyed watching the Razorbacks, but his favorites were the baseball and basketball teams on which his daughters, grandsons and nephews played. He also traveled to several states to cheer and encourage them while always providing a few tips on how to be a better player.

Gary had a mischievous side and loved to have fun and play cards with his Caldwell family and friends. Gary set the precedent for a wonderful 'girl' Dad and was devoted to his wife and family. He instilled in his family a hard work ethic, love of God and left a great legacy to carry on.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; his best friend and wife of 62 years, Bonnie (Hawkins) Caldwell; daughters, Michelle Robinson (Roger) and Christy Newell (Scott) of Conway; grandchildren, Taylor Martin (Jenny) of Maumelle, Trevor Martin (Grace) of Enola, Aaron Newell (Emily) of Conway and Austin Newell (Kylie) of Conway; great grand-children, Bellamy Martin and Barrett Newell; sister, Debbie Mears of Conway and a host of nieces, nephews and friends which he loved dearly.

Visitation is Monday, October 30, at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, October 31st at 11:00 am. Both visitation and funeral will be held at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

My heart is with you and your family. I am sorry I was not able to attend the service.

I was so sorry to hear of Gary's passing away. I always loved being around him in times gone by. He certainly did love his family greatly and certainly loved all the sports he played. I didn't get to see him play but I have heard from those that did that he was a great athlete along with his teammate Max Lay. He was super proud of course of his daughters and wife Bonnie and all of their accomplishments. He idolized his grandkids and bragged on them to me a lot and said that I should be sure to come watch them play. I got to visit with him at his Mt. Vernon farm and could tell that he was in Heaven there. Now he is farming in the real Heaven. RIP my friend. God bless all his family. He was a special guy. I was a Gary Caldwell fan. Rex Saddler
