Jean Hendrix

of St Joe, AR

July 10, 1941 - September 24, 2023

On the first full fall morning of September 24, 2023, Jean Hendrix went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to her anticipated reunion with her husband, Coy. Wyon Lou Jean (Sherrod) Hendrix was born on July 10, 1941, to B. and Aletha Sherrod Byrd in San Angelo, Texas. She was the middle child of eight children.

When Jean was a teenager, her family moved to the small community of St. Joe. There she met her best friend for life, Demoy Baker, and at the age of 15 years old, she met and married the love of her life, Coy Hendrix. Coy and Jean moved to Bentonville, where Jean temporarily ran a catering business and Coy served in law enforcement for 25 years. They were married for 48 years before his sudden passing from an aneurysm in 2005. They had one son, Kent.

Jean lived life with enthusiasm and her life was marked by her willful determination, ingenuity, and talents to learn and master any skill she found purposeful. She researched and practiced making pies until she had the perfect consistency for her meringue and a buttery melt-in-your-mouth pie crust. She left no stone unturned on the property near her cozy cottage home, where she built water features and paved pathways with the labor of her own hands. Her passions included painting landscapes, playing the organ, and organizing media and genealogy research on her computers. She once completed an entire genealogy of Jesus's life from David to Jesus. If she could imagine it, she found a way to make it a reality.

After her husband Coy's passing, Jean's life came full circle when she moved back to the small community of St. Joe. There she concentrated her efforts on homing and providing aid to each cat in the community. She tended to the birds, squirrels, possums, and skunks and valued the life of each of God's creations. For a brief time, she shared her home with her sister Pansy. She also enjoyed weekly games of dominoes with her brother, Clyde, and her sister-in-law, Shirley, whom she esteemed as a sister. While in St. Joe, Jean attended and joined the First Baptist Church of St. Joe, of which she was still a member.

Over the years, Jean's health faltered, but her life was blessed by the reappearance of her son, Kent. He assumed the role of her live-in caretaker, one he did with much love and consideration for her declining condition.

Jean's family and loved ones who preceded her in death included her beloved husband, Coy Hendrix; her oldest brother, Clyde Sherrod of St. Joe; her sister, Paula Fernadez; her brother, Tommy Sherrod and both of her parents, B. Sherrod and Aletha Sherrod Byrd and Herbert Byrd. During her life, Jean also mourned the loss of her beloved companions, Sleepy, Low Rider, Jessie, Tiger, and many other beloved pets.

Jean is survived by her son, Kent Hendrix of the home; three grandsons and one granddaughter; three sisters and their spouses and families, Ellen Van der Judedt (Bob) of Norfork, Pansy Alling of Western Grove, Mae Perkins (Bruce) of Florida and her youngest brother, Mike Byrd (Belinda) of Nevada. She is also survived by her best friend, Demoy Baker; her sister-in-law, Shirley Sherrod of St. Joe and her niece she claimed as her daughter, Beverly Cothran of Anderson Flat; all of whom will always remember her sweet smile and her contagious laugh.

On the week of her passing Jean affirmed her faith and stated that her faith in God had never wavered to her sister-in-law, Shirley.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15

The graveside service was on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Osbourne Cemetery.
